i bought a Colt 3X20 scope a few years ago. Had it mounted on my 607, then my XM177E2. Never really sighted it in for those rifles. I was thinking of an alternative use for it. Anyone ever think of using a LaRue LT100 by drilling and tapping the bottom base on the 3X20 for it ? Was thinking of using it on my Draco SBR or Galil ARM. Would also require a dog leg top cover or the side mount for the Galil.

Before I went to all that trouble I would likely just mount a Nikon P-223 and be done with it. Better scope imho all around.
Zero resettable turrets
32 mm objective lens = bigger sight picture/field of view
Bullet drop reticle gives pretty reliable holdover with 55-65 grain bullets
Brighter glass than on any Colt that I have ever looked through
When tested, my scope "shot the square" with no problems at all
ON SALE AT MIDWAY right now for $120.00

If you are dealing with any rifle in 5.56, this would be a decent option and likely be easier to get mounted.

If you have seen my previous posts on the topic, you will see that I am a fan of the Nikon scopes. Are there better ones out there, sure. Just not at this price point. For the average AR shooter, it will give you plenty of glass for most uses out to the effective range of the 5.56. Yes, yes I know that the 5.56 can/will kill out 8.7 miles but how many of us can actually hit a man sized target at 500 yards, offhand, with any consistency?

For a general, all around, plinker/blaster, occasional bench rested shooter, you would be hard pressed to find a better deal.

I had a Red Star clone...
That I mounted in some Ebay 35 mm rings, that I had to shim down to 34 mm.
I then put it on a flat top 9 mm.

It was workable, the range adjuster was 50 feet to 200 yards.

It looked sort of huge on the firearm

The original 3x20 Colt "made in Japan" scope is a collectors item and someone in the retro forum will pay good money for it. The "made in China" copies are junk.

Everything gun and scope related has come so far since the 3x20 Colt was an issue item that it's almost an antique. I still own one and when I bought it around 1981 I thought it was a great improvement over irons. I still have it and the original box. I always wondered if I could modify it to use it on Trijicon's TA51 mount which has the carry handle impression to accept it. The scope height should be perfect on a flat top with that combination.

I never followed up on the idea because:

1. Modifying the original Colt 3x20 to become dedicated for use on that mount would ruin it's collector value and

2. Excellent modern scopes put that old model to shame so it's a waste of time and resources converting it for that use.
