| How many of you on here think a fixed 6X power scope would be at home on a spr/dmr type rifle with a good mil or moa retical capable of range estimation. With either BUIS at a 45 cant or a red dot. Reason I ask is swfa makes a 6X moa retical SS that I'm considering for a build. Thank you for your input. |

You guys see the new fixed 4.5x from Nightforce? The reticle options suck, but I'm hopeful they fix that in the near future

It depends on what the individual needs from the weapon.
I'm using an OBR with a 16" barrel as a DMR platform for targets out to 500 yards. However I know most targets I encounter will be inside of 100 yards. I wanted the capability to dial up magnification as needed but still have as true of a 1X as possible to use like a red dot. I'm still trying to make a decision on optics for my rifle. I'm currently running a Leupold Mark 4, 2.5 X 10 and while the scope has worked well, I miss the option of 1X and don't need 10X at 500 yards. Again, it all depends on what the individual is wanting to achieve with the rifle. Currently I'm looking at the Primary Arms 1X8 premium and the Vortex 1X8 HD II. I also hear but can't confirm that NF is working on both a 1X6 and 1X8. I'll be interested to see what they put out. |

Depends on target size. If shooting big silhouettes then you can get away with a lower powered optic. Wanting more precision then a little more power will help. If you need a 1x optic as well then you can always go with either a side mounted red dot or even a set of "pistol" sights like used in 3 gun for quick close shots. You just have to figure out what the main reason for the scope is as finding something that does everything probably won't happen. If you will rarely use it where a red dot will be useful then why give up more top end power for longer shots?
The Vortex Razor 1-6 is a very good optic. Been running one for about 3 years in 3 gun. On 1x it's a true 1x optic and the FOV is huge. I think it's better than actual red dot sights. And then when more power is needed you can dial up. I use the JM-1 BDC reticle. It's fast and simple for holds. |
| That's why I'm considering the swfa 6x in the moa/moa flavor, I've got a 10x in mil/mil but it's just to much on a mk12 and a offset red dot should work for close stuff. Any recommendations for a red dot or iron sights to offset on it? I've been looking at the griffin armament fail safe 45 sights. Or a vortex red dot. |
| I guess I've grown used to haveing a fixed power, I've seen the benefits in speed and consistency and having less moving parts in the scope makes it more robust. Plus I like what I get from swfa for the money, but I'm open to any other suggestions for a scope in the $500 range that is FFP with moa/moa controls and retical that I can range with. |
