I just got a Bushnell ERS 3.5-21x50 Scope for my rifle. Scopes are new to me and I'd like to get some flip covers for this one.
It seems that Butler Creek and Vortex are the most popular brands, but both have a few negative reviews. Does anyone here have an opinion on which are more durable or fit better? Thanks |
| I like Butler Creek and never had a problem with them but people seem to break them a lot. Look at this company, they are pricey but worth it. http://shop.aadmount.com/main.sc |

For an scope ocular cover these are much better than butler creek. http://www.accucover.com/
Better material and they fold flat. They do help you center your eye but even discounting that feature because it's not for everyone they are much better than butler creek, the quality isn't even comparable. They are about $33-37 shipped to the US. |

Having a Bushnell Elite Tactical XRS 4.5-30x50, I HAD the BC Tactical flip up cover.....hated them. I did not care for the fit, not to mention they kept wanting to close on their own.
When with the Tenebraex, and have recommended them to everyone that asks. http://www.armament.com/tenebraex-tool |

I have had 2 sets of Butler Creek's, both have broken. I can't comment for the other guys though. I now use the neoprene covers, but they are not as handy. I recently bought a US Optics SR-8C and the objective flip cover that came with it was broken out of the box. USO sent me another one which promptly broke 2 days later. My understanding is the USO flip covers are made by Butler Creek. I have the Tenebraex cover on one of my other scopes and it is waaaaaayyyy more durable. The AAdmount covers look very good, but they should be for the $$$. Anybody know of a durable cover that fits the USO SR-8C? I don't see where Tenebraex or Aadmount makes one for this scope and the Vortex covers don't fit the objective. |

vortex are "bushwacker" brand... unlike BC's, i have never broken a set.... I've used both brands on a variety of riflescopes for many decades and never has either break. What are you guys doing to break them? I don't baby my rifles. I prefer the black Bushwakers to BC, but they both work fine. BTW, even my rather high end Kahles came with Bushwakers. The new version fold all the way back. But, I'm not going to replace older BCs until they break, which will probably be never. Either is very inexpensive. If you happen to own a Leupold scope of recent production, look into the metal threaded screw in magnetic closure Alumina caps. They are awesome, but about $40-50 each. They fold flat, too. |

There is nothing wrong with older BC caps. Within the past ~6 years the quality has dropped off. Vortex/Bushwacker are way more durable than new Butler Creek caps. Not to mention they fold flat and are more flexible to fit a wider range of scopes with fewer model numbers. |

Personally, I prefer Tenebraex The first set of Tenebraex I ever owned came with the scope I purchased from you. I have a number of BC covers and will be replacing them with Tenebraex. It won't take long either. I've broken I don't know how many BC covers. |
| The older BC caps were pretty damn good but the current one suck. I have found the larger objective caps (50mm and larger) break if you look at them hard enough. I have a set of BC's on on a 32mm objective scope and it seems to be holding up pretty well. The Vortex branded caps on my razors are holding up pretty well too but they do feel somewhat cheap. |

Does anyone here have an opinion on which are more durable or fit better? Thanks Butler Creek fit better, Vortex seem more durable. I prefer the Butler Creek because of the fit over Vortex. The Vortex are more rubbery(which is why they are more durable) so they don't stay put as well. I had to get a Vortex for the ocular of my 6-24x56 IOR, one size is too loose the next size had to stretch way the fuck out to fit and still would pull off if I tried to slowly pull it open( got to flick it open). I had to use a BC on the objective bell due to size. Given a choice between the BC or Vortex I would pick the BC, sure you will probably break at least one but they are inexpensive. I put Leupold Aluminas on my Mark 4 after I broke the BC that it came with, love the Aluminas and would put them on everything if I could. |
