I'm glad this is finally here, and look forward to learning what I can from yall!  I am new to precision and lo nvg range shooting and am looking to get into for a but of added excitement, challenge, thrill, and all that comes withrough it.

So on to my question, I am lookin for a scope to put on a new DPMS G2 308 AR I am going to be buying.  I am looking for a mil reticle, mil turrets.  I am not necessarily looking for anything too crazy as I am new to this and want to learn and improve my equip mentioned along with my skill.  My budget would probably be around $500, but being new to this I do not know if that is even reasonable.  I definitwly have no intintention to spend over $1000.  And the range would probably be 600 meters and under, and more frequent around 400.

Any help and advice will be much appreciated.

If you like fixed power scopes, I do, you will want to consider the SWFA 10x or 6x... if you're looking for a variable power, Vortex Viper PST in 1-4x comes in at $500.00.

Do you like the Weaver over the swfa10x?

Yes, I do. I like the fact that the Weaver is a variable and they are both made in Japan so quality is a wash.

Do you like the Weaver over the swfa10x?

I like how the Weaver has a single screw on top the turret knob to reset the zero.  SWFA SS has 3 allen set screws to tighten on the turret for zero reset.  I have own both, & like very well.  I no longer have the SWFA SS.

My hang up on the weaver is the 1inch tube and its limited adjustment. I haven't seen the weaver in real life though.

Why not the 20X?

SWFA SS 20x42

As you will only be shooting up to 600 yards I would recommend the Vortex Viper PST 1-4X24.  Great first scope and should do everything you need it to for less than $500.

Too much magnification to be stuck with(bad mirage, small field of view), tiny exit pupil all the time(dark, unforgiving eye relief).

I have the Weaver tactical grand slam and for the money it is a good scope. The primary arms 4x14 ffp has excellent reviews also.

I am thinking of trying this one out.  Price is right to get started with and great reviews.  Seems like it would be an inexpensive way to get familiar in working with mildot.  I am tempted on the burris fullfield ii with bdc 4.5-14 onswfa for $200 with rebate.  Any thoughts between them?  I do like variable power as I hunt with these too.

I am using a DPMS Recon gen1 with a Specwar 762 on it.  I am planning on a geiselle or timney trigger for it too.
