| Looking for scope ideas for my 308 build. Going to try shooting at 500 yards at some point so keep that in mind |

With that little information the sky is the limit. Assume you have a budget? If not I'd swing for the fences and start looking at variables from S&B, March, USO, NF etc.
You probably need to identify what you'll actually use it for. Hunting only? PRS events? Plinking? Personally, I would identify my needs from the optic first. Determine a budget and start looking at the best glass that fits that budget with most of the features I want. I don't care for FFP myself and only shoot at KD and it's not used for hunting so FFP doesn't help me much. I want clear glass and reliable, repeatable turrets. Look at Leupold, Vortex, Sightron, Nightforce, USO......any of the major players will likely have something to suit your needs. 4-16 will work fine, though I personally will take as much magnification as I can get so tend to look 20+ on the higher end. |

Scopes range from $100 to $5000+, you're going to have to help narrow the choices. |

Looking for scope ideas for my 308 build. Going to try shooting at 500 yards at some point so keep that in mind I've built a 308 for hunting and Presion rifle events. Mega Maten upper and lower Mega 20" barrel 1:10 Adjustable gas block JP silent capture 2 stage trigger(forgot brand) DPMS BCG Magpul PRS stock I've got about $2k into the gun so far and I'm willing to spend that on a scope. I was thinking about the Leopold Mark 4 ER/T |
| I would look at the Bushnell HDMR II in that price range: http://www.eurooptic.com/BU-ET36215H-Bushnell-Elite-Tactical-HDMR-II--35-21X50-H59-RE.aspx |
| I personally am not a fan of the leupold mark 4 scopes I think they're way overpriced for old technology and features but if that's what you want I would get the TMR reticle over regular mildots. I personally would want a Christmas tree reticle like the H59 or G2 for wind holds and I also think the Bushnell DMR2 would be a much better choice. |

If you are willing to spend 2K than a NF ATACR 4-16 can be had, so can a S&B 4-16, and for a couple pennies more a Hensoldt 4-16. Certain models of the Leupold MK6 fall below 2k, usually the B series turrets and no illumination. Great glass but double check the tracking and return to zero with those. Leupold will take care of you but be prepared to do a bit more leg work.
Those scopes are double what the Leupold MK4 is. Of the NF and S&B, I would take the NF. I own and use both regularly and the NF is a better package overall. |

If you're going to go out and shoot steel, you'll find that 500 yards isn't that far for a .308. You'll want to stretch it out more than that.
Get the best glass you can afford. Even if you have to save a little while longer to get a quality optic. For $2K, you can get a the 18x Vortex Razor. |

The Leupold Mark 6 and 8s seem to be very decent optics for their price ranges. The Mark 4 on the other hand is quite outdated and can be outperformed by optics costing considerably less.
The nightforce you are looking at has a quite high magnification and would be more at home on a dedicated bench rest rig as opposed to and AR. My preference for that rifle would be something in the 3-15 range although I tend to run less magnification than most. From the description of the rifle I can almost guarantee you that FFP will work out better than SFP. Look into the NF 4-16x42 around the top of your budget range. The 3-15x50 Steiner and 3.5-21 Bushnell are good cheaper alternatives. |

I believe I have found my scope. I'm thinking about going with a Nightforce NXS 8-32x56 I'm also signing up for some long distance shooting clinics and hope to do some shooting out to 1000 yards late this summer. Good call on the clinics. As I stated above, you'll want to shoot longer than 500 in no time at all (unless you're goal is hitting very small targets at 500) |
