Was wondering how similar an ar-10  build is to the ar-15 build .new at the building game really want to go up in caliber

Assembly is the same.  There isn't really one set standard so you will have to research a little on the parts compatibility, i.e. dpms vs armalite pattern, but it's nothing that difficult.

Different tools are needed. Barrel nut wrench, upper and lower receiver are all different. You need 55 to 70 lbs. of torque on an AR10 barrel nut.

When it comes time to purchase a barrel, have it headspaced to your bolt or buy a bolt that was matched with that barrel. Tolerances with the .308 aren't as tight as the AR-15 and headspace does need to be checked. Also, large platform AR's run best with longer gas systems and adjustable gas blocks. Sometimes it takes some tuning to get them to run right. Cheap parts are cheap (Ex. if you find a BCG at a great price, it ain't because its a good deal). Other than that, its pretty simple.

You need a torque wrench.
