So I took my 6.5 Grendel to the range yesterday. I set up a bench to use at 100 yards and get a .246 MOA. When I dont use the bench my MOA is roughly .6 MOA. Now obiously the rifle can out shoot me. But does anyone have any pointers to help me drop that? I'm not looking to get to .25 MOA, I'd be happy with double that, but it seems that no matter what I try i just cant get it to drop any. This is from a seated position not prone. MANY thanks for all the advice!

You're obviously joking. Any AR based rifle that flirts with .5" groups is a hammer, leave it alone.

My guess is this is a technique question vs a rifle question.

But with that said, I got nothing. I wish I could shoot <3/4" unsupported. I am happy to shoot that way off a rest.

Good luck OP, lets see some of those targets!

That needs more explanation. Are you monopoding with the magazine, resting on bags...?

Is your "bench" a vise?

Very difficult to diagnose a shooter's technique  over the Internet.

Show up at a few bench rest matches, find a coach in your area.

Pics of setup would help... at the least a simple description of what you are doing, you equipment setup, etc.

.25moa? Get a life man, all good shooter hold at least a .05moa average.

Did OP mean 2.5moa, and 6moa offhand? Because that would make a hellofa lot more sense...

find a new hobby.  At .25 moa, you are obviously so bad that there is no fixing you.  You should be getting .025" standing, off hand, with iron sights and a cigarette hanging out of your mouth.

I get very good 1 shot groups.
The groups are always at about .5 moa at any yardage I shoot.
Of course that is off a bench.

I was told that when there is celestial order, the moon, sun and stars are all in alignment, you are in a state of internal harmony with yourself in a state of eternal peace and externally harmony with your rifle, bullets, powder, brass, primers and the weather  the . 25” MOA AR group will find you.

OP - how many shots in your group and is it repeatable or a one time event?
