So a buddy of mine has been hounding me to get into bolt guns. And I made the leap. This weekend I got to put a few rounds down range with a 6.5 SAUM 4S. Boy was it it sweet.

Managed to find a deal on a trued 700 in 6.5 SAUM 4S barrel action for 1k with a badger DBM. Planning on putting it in a bell and Carlson traget/comp stock with adjustable cheek piece for now.

Did I do this wrong? I know it's not gonna be cheep to start reloading for it but boy am I excited!!!

What's y'all's thoughts?

Scott

Edit: this isn't my first step into long range shooting. I've been a gas gun guy..

I don't know but I'm curious about what kinda numbers you post up? That damned LRRP has given me the 6.5 disease and curiosity is killing me about what's better than the 6.5 Creedmoor. It would really be neat if you could sling a 160 gr VLD type bullet fast enough to get really really interesting.

So the guys rifle I shot  was shooting 3225 with 140 vld Berger's. I'm hoping to get 3050-3080 with 140 nolser custom comp to save on brass and barrel life.

3100 with 140's and 3200 with 130's using 61-63 gr H1000 should net you 2500 rnd barrel life easily. The Hornady brass is average, I'm at 5 loads on my current lot and pockets are still good.

Sweet. Not the first time I've heard those numbers. The guys rifle.of shot this weekend said when he throws brass it's cause the pockets gave out.

Saum isn't a bad round by any means, just has brass that cost a bit more and burns quite a bit of powder.  Barrel life is decent unless you start to really hot rod it.

Enjoy it.  I just sent payment on a barreled Savage action with a 7mm SAUM barrel.  It's more of a hunting setup.  I will drop into my GRS Berserk stock and I can pick up a 6.5 SAUM barrel for it as well.  I have a 6.5 addiction I think.  Grendel, creedmoor, and maybe a GAP 4S chamber.

I was most definitely thinking of that. I have about 500 Nolser 140 CC I'd like to use first then switch it up to the eld m/x line for match and hunting use.

What kinda drop chart would that run to 1700 yards? Your Creedmoor has a a 28" barrel is that correct?

there are a few saum reamer prints out there.  If you want to shoot something like the 147 eld you won’t want to use the 4s reamer. It would put the bullet deep in the case.

How about some pictures and an update?

Sounds like a good deal on the barreled action.

Since you reload, it doesn't really matter what caliber you choose.  Some may cost a little more but in this case it is pennies difference compared to the 6.5C.

Nosler makes a good bullet so you should be good there.

So close. All I need is a peal washer for the break. That's just a temp break until I get my 419 and I still need and mag powder and ammo boxes. So close!

All Litz custom curves, at standard conditions. I use all these in my Grendel so I just upped the Vs.
