This is just a shot in the dark, because I dont know if correct swivels are available or not, but you may want to contact Retro Arms Works, it's owned by a member here, and he specializes in Vietnam era items.

Is the 5R rifle that you're getting one of the parkerized ones, or is it the stainless?

I purchased a Remington 700 Police Special in the mid-1980's that was virtually identical to the M40 straight from the factory. I used a Redfield scope mount and a Leupold VX-III 3.5x10 scope to build my version of a clone. I had the receiver milled for a stripper clip, drilled and tapped for iron sights and an aluminum pillar bedding job. The trigger is set at 2.5 pounds. It has the same stock as the one pictured by the OP.

I'm thinking about sending it in to get threaded for a flash hider/muzzle break. Kind of a M40 meets the 21st Century look. This rifle shoots 1 MOA off a bench and is a classic in every way.

Took her to the range today and I must say she is a keeper
once I zero'd it I was shooting some great groups
id say with the right load this is a 1/2 MOA rifle at 100
now I have yet to take her out far but I'm sure she will do just fine
Note I swapped the Redfield 3-9x40 out for a Leopold Mark AR 6-18-40 mil\mil

Initial 100 yard zero and adjustment using 168 grain Federal gold medal match (not sure why I wrote remington ...must be tired)

A quick group one was not great but the rest (not shown) were MOA

Now these are my hand loads
Just followed the recommendation from my reloading book as far as case length and OAL goes with different power weights
powder used was IRM 4064 and Hornady BTHP 168 grn.

Thats 3 shots!!!
Well this is very positive and I'm sure one the barrel settles in this should be a consistent 3/4 to 1/2 gun

Yes it is bedded
in fact bedding was a must back in Vietnam where humidity played a big part in stock warping

It's a real deal M40 in a museum.  I think it was Chuck Mawhinney's rifle.  Used in Vietnam.

There has been stuff written on this rifle before.  But yes it was Chuck Mawhinney's rifle that he used in Vietnam.  It was the receiver serial number that was his.  After they switched to the M40a1 his rifle went by the way to Okinawa.  After about 30 years in service his rifle (the actual serial number) was taken out of action back to PWS to turn it back into an M40.  After that it was turned  over to the Marine Corps museum where it is today.
