Starting my 40 clone
Rifle, Remington 700 R5 in 308 24inch Scope, Redfield/Leopold Custom Shop commemorative 3-9x40 in green Rings, Badger M700/M40 one inch Stock, Taylor Engineering CNC'd stock refinished in linseed oil and sealed in minwax still need to get the period correct swivels here are some pictures before the build since I'm waiting on the rifle  m40 build by John Hermesmeyer, on Flickr

No its not a exact M40 rifle I won't clip slot it and ill leave the crown the same. I wanted it to be a homage to the M40 but not a exact replica |

This is just a shot in the dark, because I dont know if correct swivels are available or not, but you may want to contact Retro Arms Works, it's owned by a member here, and he specializes in Vietnam era items. |

I purchased a Remington 700 Police Special in the mid-1980's that was virtually identical to the M40 straight from the factory. I used a Redfield scope mount and a Leupold VX-III 3.5x10 scope to build my version of a clone. I had the receiver milled for a stripper clip, drilled and tapped for iron sights and an aluminum pillar bedding job. The trigger is set at 2.5 pounds. It has the same stock as the one pictured by the OP.
I'm thinking about sending it in to get threaded for a flash hider/muzzle break. Kind of a M40 meets the 21st Century look. This rifle shoots 1 MOA off a bench and is a classic in every way. |

Took her to the range today and I must say she is a keeper
once I zero'd it I was shooting some great groups id say with the right load this is a 1/2 MOA rifle at 100 now I have yet to take her out far but I'm sure she will do just fine Note I swapped the Redfield 3-9x40 out for a Leopold Mark AR 6-18-40 mil\mil Initial 100 yard zero and adjustment using 168 grain Federal gold medal match (not sure why I wrote remington ...must be tired)  First range outting with my M40 replica by John Hermesmeyer, on Flickr
