I am now second guessing myself...I have a chance to buy an M24R ( no scope ) at my LGS for $ 2199 which is the typical price online. I really like what Remington is doing with the old parts and I dig the rifle. I already put money on the M24R but now I am having second thoughts if I should get something different. I know I am stepping down if I get an SPS tactical with the threaded barrel but I kinda like the 1 in 10 twist rate for heavier bullet...I also have a can that I want to run around with, but some people might not be happy if I get the M24R threaded for a brake....
Should I get something else?....I know the owner of the LGS pretty well, so he would not mind if I cancel my M24R and get something else. |
The 5R has the same barrel as the M24 profiled down, and comes in a H.S. Percision stock with either a threaded or unthreaded barrel. The 5R however is a new gun vs a refurbished surplus gun and the 5R is also less expensive. The real selling point of the M24 is owning a piece of history which is very cool but will come at a cost. If you're trying to get the best rifle for your money better options are available. For the same price as the M24 you could get a 5R barreled action, with an Accuracy International chasis from euro optic. You would have a better chasis/stock the same barrel and action but it would be a new rifle. The 5R is avail in Gen 1 with a stainless barrel I've left a link for that and a green stock or Gen 2 with a tan stock I'll drop a pic of my 24" 300WM gen 2 5R.

| For the money the M24R is pretty cool. I suspect the return stocks alone will be worth some serious money in a few years time. My take is the M24R will shoot and shoot well, but not better than a custom build using a top shelf BBL. The M24R gives you the chance to own a real M24, and if you look at the cost of the M24 purchased new from Remington or the clone from GA Precision its much more than the going price of the M24R. If you want a mil spec sniper rifle, this is a great opportunity. If that isnt important to you, there are likely better options for the money. |

And the 5R barrels are 11.25 twist (correct me if I'm wrong), so will not have any issue stabilizing 175's. the gen 2 is a 1/10 twist fluted barrel for full specs |

just the 300 win, 308 is still 11.25 |

Up until now...I still have not decided on this one, especially that I held a Ruger Precision in 308. I like the fact that I can use my PMags and my LR308 mags on the Ruger... ![]() Well if you're looking at more modular guns like the RPR take a look at this, its lighter, and cheaper. Weatherby Vanguard in an MDT chasis |
| For the price and accuracy the M24R is just as good, if not better than off the shelf guns. But unlike the the other guns, the M24R will increase in value. If I were you, buy the whole kit and not just the rifle. For an additional $1200 you get $1800 worth of scope, rings, and spare parts. Good luck in your choice. |
