I have a Sako 85 in 30-06.Which Sako optilock base is needed to install a Leupold V-2 3x9x40,  the short action, long action or extended? The 30-06 caliber Sakos are considered M action according to the manufacture web site. Thanks

1" low or medium would probably do fine for you.  I have the Sako 1" low  for my Leupold 1.5-5 on my model 75.

Here's the .pdf for Sako Optilock ring mounts which gives the heights. Sako rings[url=http://www.sako.fi/sites/default/files/Optilockring.pdf]

Leupold makes rings which match the particular shape of the Sako receiver at a lower price than the Sako offerings, with the recoil of 30-06 they would work fine also.

I know that I can use the low rings. The opti-lock bases are separate , They are offered in Short, Long and extended. 30-06 is long action, but this caliber is considered M action on Sako web site.

Before you buy the Sako mount at least consider the Near MFG offerings out there. They make some of the nicest kit for Sako rifles on the market when it comes to bases and mounts.
