Local store had a couple of M24s in stock today when I was actually looking for a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle. One looked pretty hammered, the other was in good condition. It had M24 stamped on the barrel and had the adjustable HS stock.

Is it safe to assume M24s are trued, lapped etc.by the Army or Remington? Anything to look for to determine condition?

I dunno I've always wanted an M24, but for the cost I could get a nice 6.5 CM setup.

Pictures? Sounds fishy. Bout the only place I know to get real deal m24s is from remington. They are good rifles. May not be the most feature loaded or up to date rifle out there, but they work.

The Army contracted Remington to re-build the service's M24s into M2010s using the original. serial-numbered receivers.  They said Remington could keep the parts.

Remington put GI take-off parts on to brand-new 700 receivers and sold them at a premium for collector value.  Brilliant, and a great money-maker for them (they were only out the cost of receivers/bolts and assembly).

The 700 receivers are the same as the GI ones they replaced -- straight off the factory line, not trued or prepped in the Custom Shop.
