| I was doing some load work up with a rem 700 in 300 blk today and during the last twenty rounds fired I had 5 light primer strikes. I probably have had around 2000 rounds through this rifle previous to today and have never had this happen before. Any idea what I tore up? Thanks |

They're handloads. Are you sure you seated the primers to full depth? If you fail to do that you'll get what might seem like LPS's but in fact what's happening is the primer is being finish-seated by the striker. That frequently breaks the anvil off the primer and renders it a dud. If you're really really sure you have them seated properly (deep dents don't prove that out BTW) then you might want to pull the bolt apart and clean the gum out of the striker channel and off the spring. I'm betting you had a few short strokes on the primer arm. Happens to everyone once in a while. |
| I broke the bolt apart this morning and cleaned. It was pretty grimy. I haven't had a chance to shoot again yet. Im fairly positive it wasn't a primer issue the second group of light primer strikes was loaded after the first group failed. My reloading bench is twenty feet from my shooting bench. I am using cci small rifle magnums though. I didn't think that would make much difference Thanks |
