Quick review, with a few Ipotato photos. Picked this up last week, Remington 5R 20" .308 with a threaded fluted barrel and HS Precision stock. Immediately added a Larue base and rings and replaced the terrible X-Mark trigger with an outstanding Timney Calvin Elite trigger. It sports a Leupold VX-6 2-12, Silencerco Omega and SKD stock pack. The pack gets you up to the right height for the base and ring combo, and is very high quality. I wanted the capability to use the installed scope for hunting and a big 50mm for long range at some point without having to mess with anything, thus the Larue setup. It is a little high but as you can see below, you wouldn't get a 50mm much lower (shown is a 42mm objective). Return to zero appears to be more precise than I will ever need for practical use. As shown it weighs in at 10 lb. 7.5 oz. unloaded. The barrel fluting is fairly deep and helps cut the weight down a bit. I am really impressed at the weight for the performance it has shown so far. The group below is 100 yards on sandbags using PPU 1X neck sized brass, 44.3 gr. Varget, CCI #34 primers and a 168 SMK loaded at 2.83 COAL (about the max of the internal magazine without binding). 3 shots at just over 1/4" is good enough for me. Very pleased overall, but the installed trigger belongs in the trash. Seriously Remington, you couldn't do any better than that? Other minor peeve is they used a worn tap on the base screw holes, causing me to have to break out my own tools for what should have been a 10 second install. http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu206/lokifoxbt/C0BB77B2-7425-4FC0-9F62-6C7B0DB8B516_zpsvmzwchdf.jpg http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu206/lokifoxbt/C983E2C9-EA0C-4BF5-849A-FFC99A09EADC_zpswecsh2g9.jpg http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu206/lokifoxbt/EA995652-E737-4863-8666-52354A4CA20E_zpszlxuaf36.jpg http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu206/lokifoxbt/BAD365B7-BDD8-46DB-AC61-A472ECC20C2D_zpsgnpsi0nz.jpg http://i648.photobucket.com/albums/uu206/lokifoxbt/D5FC9EBB-796E-41E0-921E-E84B833B1B53_zpspsibqvhr.jpg I recently purchased a similar 5R w/ a 24" threaded barrel. Interesting that you mention the base screw holes, one of the base screws on mine looks like the slot was tightened with an old worn out screw driver. Hoping that the screw does not give me a problem when I have the scope mounted in two weeks. Thanks for posting. |

I am torn between this model and the much cheaper 16" AAC model (Hogue stock) as an all around 308. How have you liked it so far? Is it too unwieldy or front heavy to carry through the woods? I will actually be putting an Omega on it as well.
Do you happen to have any more pictures with the can on it? Thanks in advance. |

Looks great! I love the lines of the newer Gen 2 guns. It's like they actually paid attention to what people like when they made the changes.
I've got a Gen 1 300 win mag inbound--hoping it will be a good host for my specwar762 with minimal POI shift. Congrats on a good shooter. |

I'm still pondering a Kimber Adirondack for an ultralight hunting rifle. If I get it out this weekend I'll snap a couple photos. Been loading for and shooting my AA SF-308 lately. It's a shooter... |
