I always thought having a detachable mag would be the cats meow. So I bought a Rem 700 with a CDI bottom metal along with 5 and 10 rd mags.
Well as it turns out I don't enjoy it. I carry the rifle a lot and the mags are always in he way. I can't load the rifle from the top one round at a time. I also don't like unloading the mags versus unloading the factory bottom metal. So my question, can I remove my CDI and replace with the factory metal? I don't have the factory bottom and don't know if the stock had been cut out to the point of no return??? |
| A long time ago I had a CDI Bottom metal on my rifle and ended up putting the original bottom metal back on...yes there will be a gap around your stock. Best thing to do is buy another stock for it or trade. Are you on a long or short action? I may be interested in it in case you head in this direction. |

Right, the CDI bottom metal is larger than the stock metal. Best option is to trade with someone (stocks and bottom metal together). It shouldnt be hard to find someone who wants detachable mags. Hello I have the original stock from my R-700 with the bottom metal. Have no use for it. |
