Can of worms right?

Jewel? Timney? Rifle Basix? I'm looking for a 700 trigger (w/ top safety) that can be dialed down to ~2-2.5 lbs but still be safe in the field. What are some reccomendations?

Jewel is probably a bit delicate for the field, my gunsmith suggested rifle basix.

I would get an X-treme 2 stage but that's just me.

I like the old Walker Remington factory triggers set at 2.5#s and bump tested to ensure adequate sear engagement.

This is IMO the best option. A close second would be the Timney 510.

if you want a 2-stage, x-treme is the way to go
if you want a 1-stage, timney
if you want to carry around a bottle of lighter fluid, jewel

i don't have any experience with the rifle basix

I've used a couple different triggers. Timney, Jewell, etc.

At the end of the day I ended up with the Timney Calvin Elite. Very adjustable and still has the upper safety. Reasonable priced. Think I got mine for $140 if I remember correctly. Can be adjusted from a couple pounds to well under a pound. Quite a wide range.

If you have anyone around you with various triggers, definitely feel them first.

I had a Jard Varmint laying around  but it will not work in a HS stock  due to different geometry of the bolt release lever.

I just ordered a Timney from Midway.

I have 3000 rounds through my Jewell, no lighter fluid required yet. No competitions but all fired prone on the ground(wind blown sand etc.) But I am sure 3 Jewells went down at the competition last weekend. That is the same story I keep hearing.

I have it set at 12oz, it will not drop the firing pin no matter how hard I try to get to do so.
If you only plan on going down to 2.5lbs. then the Timney is probably the best choice. You see nothing but positive feedback and the price is right.

My suggestion is Jewell.  I see in previous posts, statements like, "delicate" "lighter fluid" in reference to Jewell. In my experience I have never had a Jewell fail or ever had a single issue with one, set from 2 pounds to OZs. I have a Jewell in virtually every bolt rifle I own.  I hunt deer here in TX for months in high desert wind and sand conditions that is likely one of the worst possible scenarios for a trigger or rifle period, zero issues.  From the freezing snowy conditions of the Pamir and Altai mountains to the sand and heat of Africa I have never had a Jewell Fail. Apparently some have, from the statements above,  but it has not been my experience

Jewell Is a stainless trigger with no lube required.
In my opinion if you want the best buy a Jewel!
I had to wait months for mine but man was it worth it!

I really like my straight blade timney, factory set at 1-3/4#.  great trigger for half the price of a jewell

I've used both the Jewell HVRA and CG X-Treme Model 22 extensively.  I like and trust them both.  The Jewell cost half as much.

The forum approved trigger is Timney, so that is what 99% of the opinions will be. In spite of that, I bought the Jewell because it is a drop-in, all 3 adjustments are accessible and it will adjust down very light. 3300 rounds now, I am happy with it.

Thanks for the info, I wish geissele would make 700 triggers already, would be an easy choice.

I will not set a Remington trigger of ANY VINTAGE below 3# without doing some other work to the fire control.

The new Timneys are great triggers. Shilen makes a good trigger, I've seen a lot of Jewells go down in the dirt, but they are the best feeling of any of them.

What break weight are you set at on your Huber?  What's the first stage weight?

david tubb just announced on his facebook a new trigger.  looks like it will be a contender.  unfortunately, he says they won't remove the safety so it's not an option for me

I have a Jewell trigger in my rifle and the only issue I have is that there's a bit of creep in if you try to adjust it over a certain weight. I even sent it back to Jewell to refurbish it and fix anything that might need it. I asked for them to set it at 2# for me in case that the issue was my adjusting. They sent it back with all new adjustment screws, but set at a 8oz pull. It still won't go much heavier with out the onset of some creep no matter how much adjusting I do.
Apparently it's a common issue from what I remember reading from other people on the internet. My friend gave up on his and went to a Timney and an adjusted old factory Remington trigger, both feel real nice.
I'd try a Timney out if I was looking for something set heavier than a pound.
