OK, I have been watching this forum for a while and every thing has been discussed from one end of the rifle to the other.
Except for triggers. I know not all triggers fit all rifles. So since I have a Remington 700 with old style trigger and
have read all the bad hype about them. What brand of trigger is the best replacement?
Looking for a trigger that will be set at around 2.5lbs.for informal target shooting.
Kinda leaning towards Rifle Basix but would really like to hear from some more knowledgeable people.
Thanks~

I'm more of a Savage guy, but Timney and Jewel seem to be the primary choices for the 700 action.

I'm sure others will join, in who have both and can comment further

I have a timney 510u in mine set to 2.5#. I like it a lot. It is more of a tactical style rifle than a bench rifle.

I run the Jewells in all 3 of mine, I really like them. Affordable, very clean break, no safety issues. No complaints, but I cant speak to other aftermarket brands. Jewell is what I started with and stuck with it.

best buy is the Timney

Jewell is nice for the bench, but prone to fail if it gets dirty, so a bad choice for hunting/TAC use..

the Tubb and Huber are some of the best and 2 stage, but both are 300+ i belive

My huber is very nice, and I got it for a song, but yes.  It's expensive.  There is quality there to justify it, but its damned expensive.

But you cant beat it.

Timney Calvin Elite for me. I have had both a 510 and a 517 and when adjusted all the way down to anything 2lbs-ish or so, they become inconsistent feeling to me on the weight of the pull and felt like they had a whole lot of creep. I got a Calvin Elite and I have settled on about 12-13 ounces. FWIW, these come from the factory set incredibly light and will actually slam fire if you rack the bolt too hard. I had it happen to me and have read about others having it happen to them over at the hide. Once you bump it up a little bit from the factory setting, it is such a smooth trigger.
