| Muzzle Brake is a Precision Armament with their indexing washer. Rifle is a Savage model10 FCP SR .308WIN. With the brake installed my groups are terrible. Without it I'm "clover leafing" the target. This is at 100 yards using the same loads. I'm using the same technique, bipod, bag etc and shooting groups one after the other. At first I thought it was me. After removing the brake I had to re zero and it performed great. I do not understand why the brake made it shoot so bad. |

Yea Lefty, that's my conclusion to this. I was one of those that used to listen to a few that told you what you needed and what works best. Well, over the years I've discovered I don't always "need" a lot of things. I definitely found out that with this rifle the brake is not needed for this application. |

There are 2 possibilities:
1) the ammo in the unbraked rifle is at one end of an accuracy node and adding the brake pushes it out of its good shooting envelope. In this case a little change in charge weight would work wonders, but you have to reload. 2) the hole in the brake is not big enough and the bullet is touching on the way out. Ream it 0.01 or 0.02 larger to solve this problem. |

Who said Precision Armament brakes work best?
Is the hole .030 over bore? Are the threads true? Who threaded the barrel? Crush washer flat? Is the load stable? Other than poi, my brake( or magnetospeed) doesn't effect accuracy. I have not seen any claims of a quality brake having a negative effect on accuracy. Though I have seen many claims of clovers leaf groups that were just wishful thinking. Not that that is your case OP, could be a bad brake or your load don't like it. |

Is the hole .030 over bore? .338" measured with my calipers
Are the threads true? I am just assuming they are......... I didn't take it to a gunsmith Who threaded the barrel? Savage Firearms Crush washer flat? Precision Armament indicated in the directions to use their indexing washers Is the load stable? Per Berger Bullet twist rate calculator it says my load should be about 1.89 and should be stable If I plan to continue to use this brake I will take it to a gunsmith and have him install the brake. "Though I have seen many claims of clovers leaf groups that were just wishful thinking. Not that that is your case OP, could be a bad brake or your load don't like it." I didn't take any pictures this weekend so no actual evidence................. However, I do have some clover leaf pictures I have done with my Remington 700 doing three shot groups........ Quoted:

By load being stable I mean, does it work in all conditions hot or cold, does it work with a +/- .2gr charge? Maybe your load is very picky with conditions (I would call it unstable) so any minor change throws it off. I have a suspicion it is your load, maybe get some fgmm and do a couple 10 round groups with and without the brake. |

I may do that. I was digging around the other day and found some fgmm we used at work for qualifying. Next pretty day we have I'll try it and see what happens.
