If you kill something with a stick and string of any kind this year, please post your pics here.  Compound, longbow, crossbow, recurve, etc., all are welcome here.

From a small doe to the biggest and baddest buck in the woods, everything taken with a bow is something to be proud of.

Good luck to everyone here and hopefully I can post in my own thread soon.

FiremanBrad -  Very Nice!!   Recurve and wooden arrows ?  Your bow skills are strong!  Puttin the sneak on prong horn w/ a recurve is pretty damn impressive!  Nice black bear also.  So, whats next?

Nine Days of spot and stalk without success, 8 lost arrows and cactus quill scars!  What an adventure it's been.  Finally this guy came alone and gave me a 50 yard shot.

Here is my SW KS antelope.  Taken with a crossbow at 35 yards.  He was on the move and we set up about 1/2 mile ahead of him in the brush.  Walked right to us.  I would rather be lucky...!!!

I love it. I ffel that the tether is a little on the short side for archery shots behind the tree, so I took care of that. I made a trip to the local Army surplus store this afternoon and purchased a loop made out of webbed material that is rated at something like 6000 pounds. It was designed for rock climbers. Since the loop was four feet long, I folded it in half, and attached a carabiner to each end. I'll use it as a tether extension.

I do the same thing.  I use a length from another harness system and double it up with a load rated carabiner.

Nice shot and congrats!

I got my first bow kill today around 11:00am!  This doe and two young does came up on me within 10 yards.  They stop suddenly as if they knew something was wrong.
the big doe quartered away to about 15-20 yards and stopped long enough for me to get a shot off.  I could tell instantly that I got a clean through shot and could see the
wound as she bolted off.  The two small does stood around as if lost for more than 10 mins.  I grabbed my camera and got some video of them.  What a rush!

Equip:  Parker Trailblazer 60#, carbon express arrow, Rage 2 blade broadhead

Great buck, 1bamashooter. It's pretty cool that you have a live photo as well. Congratulations on your first bowkill, bluenuts. Good-looking deer, everyone.

I took this one this morning:

I'm a little disappointed to state that it took two arrows to do the job. First shot was high at 12-13 yards, and it ran in a semi-circle and stopped in some thick brush. When it stepped out, I estimated it to be 40 yards, and shot again –– drilling it dead center of the ribcage. After the shot, I ranged the tree it was standing in front of to be 43 yards –– definitely my longest shot at a deer by far. I wouldn't have taken a shot that far if it wasn't on a wounded deer.

I passed on a doe at 36yds a few days prior, I feared wounding her and/or not being able to get a second kill shot.

That's pretty cool.

Two questions: What were all the deer staring at to your right? Why did you choose the doe that you did? (It appears that you had a closer shot prior to that.)

Danke.

There were two non-hunters and two dogs in the house at the end of the property, I guess making just enough noise inside to get their attention. Convenient distraction, eh?

I chose her because she was the biggest of the group, and if I'm not getting antlers, I might as well stock the freezer. All the others were too small, and I still feel weird shooting anything other than what looks like a mature animal.

I didn't take her when she was right in front of me because I still hadn't made up my mind if I was in the mood to track, gut, skin, and then butcher an antlerless deer that night. After she started walking away I decided I was, and told myself that if she turned again and I got a solid quartering shot I'd take it. She did, and at 27 yards I put the arrow through both lungs, from just behind the left shoulder coming out just in front of the right shoulder.

I'm really confident in my ability to place a shot out to 40 yards, thanks to some good practice, a 4x crossbow scope, and a nikon riflehunter 550 with ID. If she had gone past 35-40 yards before turning and presenting that same angle, I'd most likely have let her go.

Still no buck for me, but that's ok, because I luvs me some venison, this is only my second season deer hunting, and there is still lots of time left this year.

I'm trying to fill my brother's freezers right now.

I've still got two doe tags and my buck tag left. I'd like to tag out before firearms season opens on November 13, but you never can tell, especially the buck aspect.

Nice job! Mmmnn Backstraps!!  Man I'm envious!  Keep huntin hard.  I am spending most of my weekends right now w/ my 5 month old son, so my hunting has been limited this year.  It is nice to see everyone's successes and read about their experiences.  Keep hunting those does and you'll be posting a pic of a big rutty buck soon enough.  Good luck!

My opinion is 2 1/2 year old, but I'm far from an expert. I'm basing my assumption on the mass of the antlers. Doe tag fillin' time? I've been filling my doe tags in October, then focusing on a buck in November.

Congratulations, guys!

Nice job!  Looks to be closer to 2 1/2 years old.  The bridge of his nose hasn't filled out yet and the base of his antlers are more the diameter of his eyes rather than the diameter of his nose.  I look at these things and the belly  to field judge a deer.  Probably went about 180-190lbs on the hoof.  Looks like a good hunt, nice trophy , and some good eatin!

you got that right, that black spatch by his left eye is a newer scar and he has a big fishhook scar that is on the left side of his face that is only a day or so old. he also had some scars on his side from fighting as well.

He didn't care about my grunting so I tried the rattle bag. When I looked to see what he was doing after setting the bag down he was trotting right at me. At 31 yards I let the arrow go. He was wobbling good after running 50 yards and never made it out of the corn field.

I shot this buck Sunday morning at about 8:30 am.  He was the 4th buck I had seen since hunting light.  I had some doe estrus out and every buck that came in was at a trot on a mission!  I grunted at the second buck I saw and he disappeared only to reappear about 10 min later behind me almost under my tree(very sneaky!!).  I figured he would try to get my wind.  I held draw on him for more than a minute, but was never able to put it together.  The buck I shot came in the same way, but when I grunted at him he walked toward me and gave me a 15yd shot, damn near right underneath me.  I shot him high above the left shoulder quartering toward me and hit the left lung and the back of the right lung on exit.  I gave him an hour to expire and got down to start tracking.  I remember seeing that the arrow had not exited completely when he bucked and ran and half way through tracking the blood trail dried up.  I was able to tell where he was dragging his left front leg in the leaves about every 6 foot and tracked him about total150 yds.  I am not gonna lie, there was some ground shrinkage!  He was as big a bodied deer as the 130 ish 8 point from earlier in the morning, but a little lighter in the antlers. I new he was out past his ears, but I judged him a little heavier than he is.  And that is Hunting!!!  Good luck every one!
