sometimes carry my GPS with, it has info for Best time for hunting an fishing, an good time for hunting an fishing, may be wrong, but think they are talking about moon phases...  just cause it says tis best time or good time, doesn't meen tis...   have sat an watched deer moving around many times, whin acording to GPS they not supose ta be moving...  that's were i use the hi-tec method, of sit in my stand, bring some binoculars, kick back, an if see something moving, write time of day down...  few years back twas doing this, twas a buck moving just out of bow range pretty much same time, but not every day, went picked out a tree... the next year put stand in tree that had picked out, an about half hour a buck twas right under the stand...  they just changed it to 13-inch spread,  this one twas about 11-inch, just guessing, got a picture instead... the buck from year before twas over the 13-inch, could see that from a distance... just got lucky ta get that close to he 11-inch deer..  twas same time frame twas seeing the other deer...

In my experience moon phases will have different effects on different regions.  Main think I pay attention to is full moon, if it is a full moon I pretty much will not hunt the evening, unless its full rut.   Early morning is the best time to catch deer coming from feed and back to cover during a full moon, they usually move after shooting hours in the evening.   Sometimes 12:00 noon can be a good time to catch them getting restless also.

would increased hunter traffic spooking animals be more important than moon phase?

Could it is all just relevant to your particular spot and your particular circumstances.

There are LOTS of factors regarding deer movement, not just phase;
weather, wind, temp, pressure, lack/presence of food and water in area, hunting pressure.....

It seems where I hunt though, the damn hogs are the main factors in keeping the deer away.......

If possible try a feeder set up, maybe even a cattle trough for water (if you can pump/add on site)
If your capable of bringing a close water source to the bedding area, you might stand a better chance of attracting deer to your area.

first off want to appolagize, tis not an expert on moon phases, but did find some thing that may help ya out... no disrespect to any of the others....    sportsmansguide has a DVD that uses the latest research, an scientific  information on the subject of moon phases...   tis not a bad price $10.97.... as mentioned earlier, my GPS has the same thing, it came with it....   the DVD can be found at www.sportmansguide.com  an item tis  KID-96515   it says use Big Game for key search....  may be over stepping again, but don't think it comes with a garrente...

You have to see on weather and certain times of the year the moon is more consistently brighter then other times
