Bowhunters, just wondering if you use a bow-mounted quiver when hunting? If not, what's your preferred method for carrying extra arrows?

I use a kwikee kwiver but I take it off my bow once I'm settled in.

I didn't see a "Yes - because that is what Rambo would do" answer.
Note: Yes I know he used an over the shoulder quiver too... |
Its nice because if you have your bow you have your arrows. The extra weight and hampered field of view can be the big draw back.
It all depends and what you are doing and how you are doing it. |

Use a bow mounted one for transportation but I take it off once I get in the stand have a bracket attached to the stand for it. They are cumbersome things.

I've used quick-detaches, and took it off in the stand, but I had it fall out of the stand one time (and wouldn't you know I needed it that afternoon), so my latest bow has a two-piece fixed on it. I like it. Adds a little weight to the bow, but helps stabilize/quiet it too.

I use one on the bow but take it off in the stand, this year I plan on finding a way to attach it to my pack.

Yes, but I take it off when I get up in my trees stand and hang it off the stand or tree.
No quiver on my bows.
I also ground hunt, so ...I am usually staying low low low. |
The only bow hunting quiver I have ever used is the Matthews, I actually think the bow shoots quieter with it on.
Yes I use a tightspot quiver, I take it off when i get to my stand.
Rage Cage here. Lightweight and holds 5 arrows. I take mine off once i get in my stand.
Yes.
I practice with it on and keep it on all season. It provides easy access to arrows and one less loose item that could fall, make noise, or that i could bump into when drawing. I try to limit what I take with me, including what I hang from the tree so I can be as quiet as possible and have as many shooting positions as possible. |

I use one walking in. I take it off when I get there. I don't shoot with it any other time, why do it hunting.
yes, Bohning 4 arrow quiver.. take it off and attaches to climbing stand once I'm settled in...
I have one, but once I get in my tree I take it off and hang it in a hanger, limb or step. Less weight and smaller movements.

like others have said, quiver on bow while walking, off when hunting.
the opposite for my FOBs too, In the first 2 days of the season, last Mon & Tue, I lost 2 FOBs when vines grabbed them and they popped off complete with Nocturnals. now I take them off the arrows going to and from. |
this is my first year bowhunting, but ive been having issues with my quiver. holds four arrows just fine with field tips on, but with rage broadheads they dont stick into the styrofoam as well and tend to slide out when rattled which has been a pain while hiking out to my stand.
I'm sure ill come up with a solution but in case anyone has already dealt with this do you have any advice? |
tenzing 1140 day pack quiver mounted to that. always with you when stalking or sitting.
plus any other small items you like to have or need for the day. |
I use one for walking in and out, but comes off and is tied to the tree ( dropped it once learn my lesson, I carry a small hank of para cord just for my quiver)
Transport only. I mounted an extra mount on my tree stand and lock it in once I get settled.
Also when it windy it feels like a sail. Thats why I take it off.

Bow mount for me, but only a 4 arrow quiver. I really don't see the need for taking more arrows with me. I have thought about one of those packs with a quiver mounts. I don't hunt from a stand and I walk though a fair bit of brush, I'm nervous the pack mount might get caught and possibly damage the arrow fletching.

I train with it on and leave it on during the hunt. I tried a back mount quiver/pack one season. Used it at the range and thought it was great, in the field it hung up on oakbrush, and forget about sitting and leaning against anything with it on. Only used it 2 days and put the bow quiver on. IF I was hunting from a fixed stand, I would do what most of the guys do, take it off. |

Adding I hunt in CO, and have to try a climbing stand someday in our aspen trees. They seem perfect for a climber
If only I can get the elk to agree to keep using the same trail. |
Bow mounted that I leave on in the stand. One less thing to make climbing up and down a hassle this way.
First two bow hunt seasons I had it bow mounted ..... it looks badass!
After that I took it off the bow. I had a compact hunting bow and moving about in the brush I did not like the bow mounted quiver. I only carry 4 - 6 arrows with me without heads mounted on them. I'll install the broad heads when I get to the hunting area. |
Well, the quiver I had on my old bow would adjust my sight whenever I mounted/unmounted it (cost me a nice doe last season). Even though I upgraded to much better quality equipment and I know it won't do the same thing, it's left me a bit superstitious.

Since this thread came back up now that I've gone traditional I'm using a strap on quiver so it is on the bow at all times. If I didn't stand hunt I may well have switched to a back quiver.
I don't see the problem with 4-6 arrows. I read a post from someone on another board that killed 2 'yotes before shooting a deer on one sit; he went through 4 arrows on the 'yotes and 1 on the deer. I have never wished I hadn't been carrying so many arrows. My quiver holds 5 may as well fill it up. |
I have mine bow mounted. It holds 5 but only keep 3 in there. 2 broad heads and one small game head. I like squirrel and rabbit.
Yes, but a small one, maybe three arrows. The big ones are ridiculous.
Negative. Extra weight and could lead to more noise. I prefer to take mine off

cat quiver...
If I am in a stand, I will have an arrow ready on the right side... |

On traveling to the stand. Off in the stand.
Also on for spot and stalk. |
