| I have tried several options for rear sights and not having them and haven't found what I want yet. 10/22 rear just didn't do it with the fiber optic up front. Rear wind age mark works ok, but I end up peaking over and shooting high. I saw a setup at blue ridge and the guy had a Dawson pistol front and rear sight dovetailed into the VR and still had a FO front bead. Anyone running this or similar? Just looking for more info. |

Pat Kelley has a few pics of that same type of setup on his Facebook. Accurate Iron is working on something similar. I have found that when I have a rear sight I tend to look over it when I'm not using it causing my shots to go high. I have a hole in the rear of my rib right where the rib breaks downward and a white arrow painted on running down that slope. It allows me to have a rear alignment aid without blocking my view down the rib. It helped me a bunch this year as did bending my barrel straight. I have also started using a much smaller front bead. So that I don't cover the target with bead. I used to find my self aiming at the target with the big bead rather than at a spot on the center of the target. Now if I could just get my trigger pull to match my 2011 I'd be money with slugs. |

Open sights never worked for me on my shotguns. In the end, I went with ghost rings and find them to be very good at forcing my head down. I mounted a Williams on my 11-87 and custom-made a rear sight for my Versa Max. Both guns have HiViz TriComp fiber optic sights atop platforms made from 1/4" bar stock. Hope this gives you some ideas... 11-87: http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg34/stealthyblagga/GhostRing.jpg http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg34/stealthyblagga/FrontSight.jpg http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg34/stealthyblagga/SightPicture.jpg Versa Max: http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg34/stealthyblagga/VMGhostRingRear.jpg http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg34/stealthyblagga/VMGhostRingFront.jpg http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg34/stealthyblagga/VMGhostRingSightPicture.jpg That's pretty sweet man! Did it take any time to get used to the ghost ring? Did you have to raise your cheek weld to make it work? It looks higher. |

It would be nice if I could have him do it all for me. He is a tough man to get in touch with. |

I shot Tactical Iron for years, so gazing through an aperture sight is second-nature to me. The ghost ring is so large and close to the eye that it kind of disappears - it just forces me to drop my head into the proper position. The rear sights sit about as low as possible, and the front sight is fabricated to match. The sight plane is about 1/4" higher than the factory rib, but I have a fat face so it works for me. If you find yourself losing your cheek weld, simply install a moleskin or neoprene cheekpad like trap/skeet shooters use. |
