Was just reading thru the rules for each division and see that all but open say no more than 9 total before the start. 9.3.2 says give a procedural for each round over that. Can open load as many as they want or did somebody forget to put it in the open division too?

Open has no restrictions on starting load, henceforth the X-Rail.

Someone forgot to put you in open. 9 rounds is the max to start with, unless you are in open. You can have a longer tube and load more rounds as soon as the buzzer goes off though. I have seen a lot of people do that.

Next season I'm switching to a 10 round xrail tube I one at The state match.  Load 9 and The start and load up more if needed after.  Since I either weak hand load 4 or quad load, it makes it more forgiving when running a stage and loading.  I can load 4 in transition when before I could only load 3 or 2.

S for tac ops we can have a larger tune then 8+1? I am in the process of purchasing the extension tube but thought I could only have 8+1 period.

Your shotgun may hold more than 9 rounds as long as it is a conventional tube magazine (no detachable mags or X-rails) and before the start signal it is not loaded with more than 9 total (8 in the mag,1 in the chamber). You can top it off after the start.

We start a lot of stages cruiser ready 9 in the mag and chamber empty bolt closed. As soon as I chamber a round I throw in two more rounds unless the stage is 8 targets or under.

My point was, unless the stage description says you must start with less, in the Tactical divisions your shotgun may be capable of holding more than 9 rounds but, only 9 may be in the gun before the start signal. You may load more after the start signal.

That is the case in most matches these days, however there are still a few matches that will limit the gun’s capacity in some divisions/classifications. For instance the Blue Ridge Mountain 3 Gun’s tactical (optic and iron) class is still 8+1 max for the shotgun capacity. You always see a few of the 9+ tube guys making a plug just before the match starts. Just be sure to check the particulars of the match to know the rules of the day.
