Anyone have a good guide on how to smooth and open an 870 load port?   How far can I go?   What's the best way to re-blue?

I don't know if I have ever seen a guide.  I just took a file to mine and went slow.  I still need to open the front more; I was mostly working on the sides.  For the touch up I just used a cold blue.

I used a dremel and SLOWLY beveled the edges to keep them from eating up my thumb.  I didn't open up the front at all.

I did this. Haven't put cold blue on it yet.

I used a file and sandpaper to just break the edges of the port and one edge on some of the internal structure on mine.

File a 45deg on edge them round with a dremel sanding drum them polish with rouge on a felt bob.  No need to blue it if polished and you use it. :)

I didn't do a write up but I did mine with a dremel grinder and a polishing wheel.  Also I didn't blue it and it's held up great.  In fact my last match was raining so bad you would have thought it was a hurricane and the ground was like a swamp.  Still no rust.  You just have to polish it real well.
