Would a 20" barrel be considered to long for 3gun?

Not at all.  There's more than a few "tier 1" three-gunners running 20" barrels.

Note most of the top 3 gun shooters shoot 18 to 20 inch barrels.

I would even consider a 22 in if shooting iron sights for the greater sight radius.

20" is not too long at all, I have considered building a 20" upper with a FF tube and 1-4x for my multi-gun rifle

How so?

The FSB on a rifle length gas system is 12" regardless of barrel length, and the logest FF rail that I know of is 15"

We (we being most iron sight shooters) mount the front sight right out on the end of the barrel behind the comp, not on the gas block. Sight radius is your friend.

20" barrel, long sight radius.  FSB is a JP clamp-on.

I have a 24" Sabre barrel that is a tack-driver.  I've considered getting it threaded for a comp and using it in Tac Irons, but it's a little on the heavy side.  (Plus I'm not sure how threading would work since it's a .936" fluted barrel.)

Nice

I have never seen such a setup before, probably because our multigun matches are usually <50 and everyone runs optics exept for the heavy metal guys with M1A's

I would love to shoot in some of the larger multigun matches that give more range on the long end, unfortunatly our local club is not set up for that

As far as that goes about 75% of our shooting is with the handgun, and only about 25% with the rifle/shotgun.  There are several club members that use even use SBR's (myself included)

By Tier 1 do you mean really old guys?

Depends on how old we're talking.  If it's over 40, then I'll finally be "tier 1" at something!

Thanks for the in put, it made me feel better when I ordered a 20" upper from RRA.
