Depends, on the match, the rules of the match and the way the stage description is written.

Bird shot, is what is used 99% of the time, Unless it is a TRUE, Slug tgt, you don't use them.

hi,
Mostly birdshot in the shotty unless it is long range then slugs. Some targets sre for pistol and different ones for the rifle. Post in the Alabama home forum and where you live and somone will point you in the right direction. If you are in south Al then there is a 3 gun match north of Biloxi this weekend.

Birdshot is used for more shotgun targets, but occasionally there are slug targets or distant steel targets that larger shot would be beneficial.  The match director determines what the ammo used for the target.

Usually there are designated targets for each gun, but there are also some matches that you can transition to another gun if one runs dry.

There is pretty much no standard anything in 3 gun, especially in Outlaw matches.  That is why its so fun.   The Match Directors are always trying to come up with a new cool way of presenting a target you have never seen before.  The trick is to practice the fundamentals and apply them to all 3 guns.
