| Planning on doing my first hog hunt for my birthday and I cant decide which rifle to take with me. Ive got two ARs, both sub moa capable, ones got a Leupold mark AR mod1 3-9 the others got a PA 1-6... just cant decide which one to take with me |
| 6.5 Grendel would be a much better choice than 5.56. A lot more knock down power. 5.56 can, has, and will kill hogs, but will leave less room for error and will require a better shot opportunity if u want to recover the hog with minimal tracking. Hogs move around a lot and don't often give the opportunity for that perfect easy shot. Hog standing still under a feeder @ 75 yards, u will drop em with a well placed shot behind the bottom of the ear with those fusions in 5.56. Hogs on the run or moving will likely end up with less than perfect shot placement (maybe after your first shot the rest of the sounder take off and u follow up hoping to take out a few more). Those fusions should do considerably well (better than fmj) one well placed neck shot, but expect to do a lot of tracking or hear about buzzards the next day on a lot of the runners. I've heard the Barnes TSX are the way to go in 5.56. This all coming from a 6.8 fanboy. Best of luck!! |
