A local women my wife knows, posted a picture she took of a hog to her FB page. To most folks it's not a big deal, but here it is. The picute was taken here in Aroostook county Maine. We get an average snowfall of around 200 inches with very cold temps. Will or can feral hogs live in this environment? or is it likely that this is a lone hog?

The big Russian wild boars can thrive there, they live in Sibera

a domestic hog gone feral will grow tusks and its hair will coarsen  in pretty short order

Feral hogs are known to be in NH supposedly there is a game ranch that some have escaped from, the rule is your suppose to call the ranch and ask permission to kill the hogs if you see them becuase NH considers them the property of the ranch. I have never heard of anyone seeing them but someone must have if its on the fish and game's web page.

I would say if anyone sees it to kill it quickly since we dont want to have the same issues the southerners have.

Took me a while scrolling through facebook on my phone but I finally found it.  This is the picture that was taken.

The caption reads "Bab Cote took this picture last evening just off the Sullivan Rd in T17R3... She watched it on the road for 5 mins before it ran into the woods! Crazy or what... I know it's a very big black male pig but the Warden's won't call me back... saying it was probably just a bear!  UPDATE Warden Ryan did call Bab back and was going to look into it :)"

Thanks for the links, I think I had an outside chance of hunting that a few years ago through my wifes uncle....  that would of been pretty cool, I may need to call him up and see what the deal is.

Great.

First I've heard of any wild pigs here.  Hopefully its a loner and not part of a breeding population.

That is my feeling as well, if I see pigs on my property and they arent the ones in the electric fence they will be getting blasted.

Pic is too grainy to be sure...  may just be your average Aroostook County female.
