One 7.62mm Barnes 130 grain TSX @ 175 yards to the neck in the pouring down rain right at sunset using the FLIR T-50 thermal puts down this 225 pound sow:

The FLIR T-60 Thermal Clip-On is a solid performer too, as evidenced by this 150 pound sow that took a handloaded Barnes 70 grain TSX to the head today @ 225 yards in thick deep cover, no way could I see this hog without Thermal......

This was the exit wound from the Barnes 70 grain 5.56mm @ 175 yards:

Had to chase off an 8 foot gator with the front end loader that was walking up to the hogs when I went out to retrieve them, but got them all dressed out:

Got those two hogs in the front yard and dumped the offal in the backyard after we cleaned them up last night, now it's crawling with coyotes, so will have the T-70 in action again tonight!

Finally got to chrono my Barnes 70 grain TSX handloads this afternoon.

Using 25.0 grains of Hodgdon BLC-2 with Wolf primers in '09LC brass they average 2583 fps out of the SIG 556s with a 16" barrel and 1:7" twist:

Just got back from Chicago last night after a 2,800 mile RV camp out trip and already nailed two coyotes and a hog in the backyard today.

Here is a 16MB WMV FLIR Thermal video of this shoat in a sounder group getting nailed.

Well now, this was awesome great!

The FLIR T-70 works like a charm.

I was calling coyotes in the backyard on my FoxPro Prairie Blaster when I heard my Arabian snorting in the horse pasture, so I walked around the barn and low and behold a sounder group was rooting around about 200 yards out from me!

So, I slowly walked up on them using the FLIR LS-64 for spotting and layed down on the ground and opened up on them (about 12 or so) from abot 100-125 yards out.

Three shots and three meaty hogs meet the butcher knife tonight!

I had the video output hooked up the the mini DVR so will edit out a video later on....

As promised, I am finally getting some videos out of the new FLIR T-70 Mil-Spec Thermal Weapon Scope.

You have to manually turn on the NTSC Video output from the FLIR to the mini-DVR in order to save battery life as it chews more juice while recording the thermal video camera output.

It is super easy to turn on using FLIRs JoyStick.

This is recorded on my property in my backyard, there are many very large Live Trees that are hundreds of years old and about 120 feet high, they look like giant Sequoias in the video as I was laying down on the ground to get a good shot on this sounder group. Apparently the hogs are chewing on last years acorns since we have not have a good acorn mast crop this year?

Again, my Arabian horse snorting alerted me to the presence of the hogs, that is two times he turned me on to hogs in two nights!

It was about a 1/4 mile hike out to the hogs, they were shot at a distance of about 125 yards using the FLIR T-70 Thermal.

This is a 50MB WMV file that is about 3.5 minutes long, download it and then watch it.

Have been after this big boar hog for the last two months, he's been leaving ATV sized holes rooted up in my yard and I wanted to take him out. He is a loner and I spied him off and on, including one time at night when I had my 556 with the FLIR T-70 on it but declined to try to take him out due to his thick shield and my tiny 5.56mm, had been carrying the 7.62mm just for him but never did we both meet up at the right time.

Finally, last night while I was calling for coyotes he shows up a little before midnight with a couple of deer and I decided to try to take him out. First shot was into the lungs right behind his elbow, second shot was pretty much into the arse, and third shot was again into his ribcage, fourth and fifth shots may not have connected. However, I spent an hour trying to find him with the FLIR LS-64 with no luck and then another hour this afternoon with no luck, so he is buzzard bait by now. This dude has shown up on the game cam and I have seen him personally a half dozen time, easy 375-400 pounds, maybe I'll find his skull and tusks later on this fall while hiking around in the woods.

The FLIR T-70 did its job, but this size boar is just a beech to take down with a 5.56.....

11MB WMV file....

Well done sir.  That gut drop would make a fine set up for coyote around here.  Too bad we're not allowed any form of light enhancement for night hunts in KS.  Nor are we allowed to take hogs, even tho we have them show up on cams all the time.

FLIR T-70 took down five hogs in the backyard last night. Then while I was picking them up the sow charged me in the dark and shot her three times with my Browning Hi-Power 9mm, she got away and will go look for her this morning. It was total carnage, like shooting ducks in a bathtub with the FLIR and the SIG 716....

If you have a hog or a coyote problem, FLIR will simply take care of it for you!

Ten shots in pitch dark all by myself and seven hogs nailed, six recovered.

You can watch the carnage in the video.

When i was on the tractor retrieving the last one in the woods the 300 pound sow charged me in the dark, all I had was a tiny flashlight, I shot at her three times head on at ten feet with my Browning 9mm and she took off, looked all over for her but could not find her...

I do respect a mad wounded 300 pound sow.....

The Barnes 130 grain TSX entered behind the shield and scapula and went through his upper thoracic cavity and exited the other side, hardly any blood at all as he was exsanguinated into the lung cavity. I only hit him on the first shot, although I shot once again at him when he took off, thermal death video of him coming up....

Which have been the most reliable?

I have been using two SIG 556s, two SIG 716s (7.62mm), a Thompson Center Contender Carbine in 5.56mm, a Ruger #1 in 7mm Rem Mag, and a SIG P-229 in .357 SIG.

They are all 100% reliable, as far as beauty, aesthetics, and power the Ruger #1 is awesome.

As far as accuracy and firepower goes the SIG 716s are terrific getters.

As far as overall best at everything and taking home the bacon and coyote hides, the SIG 556s cannot be beat.

When it comes to long 5 mile hikes through the swamps and ultra fast handling, the Thompson Center Carbine is best.

They are all 100% reliable, never a failure to feed, failure to fire, jam, or broken part, and I only shoot my own reloads.

When it comes to optics, the ACOG and ELCAN are beautiful glass and deadly accurate.

When it comes to IR/Vis lasers, LDI and Crimson Trace get my vote.

When it come to Thermal scopes, FLIR is the only way to go.
