We ran the hog hunting contest at the Choctaw Casino wild hog hunting tournament today at the outdoor show. Here's Garrett with the biggest hog that got brought in today. 426lbs field dressed, so this thing was probably 500 or a little more on the hoof. Definitely an awesome hog. It was shot with a .270.

Nice Hog!

500 on the hoof may be an understatement but probably close enough.  I wouldn't care about the exact number, I would just tell everyone it was over a 1/4 ton!

I got some cool video of the whole event that I'll throw together this week if I have a chance including a bunch of video of this guy and the weigh in.

It's an outdoor show/gun show, BBQ cook-off and hog hunting contest. There's also various raffles and they have a contest for the best deer and best hog taxidermy mounts. They do it once a year, this was the 2nd one. They called us and asked us to run the hog hunting contest. We didn't make it last year because they scheduled it on the opening weekend of deer season.

Seriously though, good hog. I have never seen wild hogs that big, but we raised a sow to 1,100 lbs and she was 9' long. Looked like a cow with stunted legs

That's the rules. I think it's because people hunt all night long and check them in the next day and last year they had some people that wanted to keep them to eat so they needed to field dress them, so in order to accommodate those people, all hogs had to be field dressed before they were weighed in.

We've been spending too much time hunting and I haven't had a chance to even pull them off the camera yet. I'll try to get that one finished first but it might be a couple of weeks. Next week muzzle loader season starts up in Oklahoma and we'll be out in the middle of nowhere without cell phone reception for a week.

ETA: Here's a few more pictures that were sent to us to hold you over for a bit.

I shoot a TC Omega .50cal shooting Hornady 250gr .45cal sabots. I haven't used one on a hog yet but it's pretty devastating on deer. About 50% of them pile up on the spot and I haven't had one go more than about 40 yards and I shoot 2-3 deer per year with it. Most that do run make it about two steps and are within 10 yards of where I shot them.

What keeps someone from trapping a pig and feeding it all year. I'm just sayin. I dont know if they can get that big in a pin or not.

Nothin I guess but it would have a lot more fat on it than those hogs did. It would start looking more plump like a farm pig.
