Just finished welding this new hog trap last weekend and am going to work on fabing the trap door for it this weekend.

We can unbolt it into three sections for carrying out and setting up in the woods.

The trap door will stick out and open it up another four feet once we get it finished.

How are you going to stake it down? Maybe weld some tabs to the bottom with a hole through them, and make some stakes out of re-bar.

We have three mobile home tie-downs that screw into the ground and wire the trap onto them.

Will spend this afternoon welding up the trap door entrance.

Smart to use the tall panels!

Some hogs will climb.   Good job.

No only that, they can jump a hell of a lot higher than you'd think they can.

No, they don't jump higher than I think they can (I know first hand), but they can jump higher than a lot of folks would think (or not think).

Two of most common misnomers about hogs...is their supposed inability to "jump" and  their "poor eyesight", both issues are vastly misunderstood IMO.

Cool pic.

I've had a few small ones rip the skin from their bottom jaw off the bone doing that.

Yeah they see about as good as a human, which is less than a whitetail, but still pretty danged good.

That pig is in about "mid-jump". Admittedly, he is a small and athletic pig...but he was almost getting his nose to the top of the panel (which is what prompted me to try and get a pic in the first place). He would have reached the top (and rolled over) a 4' panel, plus shorter panels encourage climbing and jumping attempts.

But... worse than the notion that pigs "can't jump" is the issue of their eyesight. To hear some folks tell it....you'd think they were darn near blind, NOT SO!

Me thinks...the people that spread that kind of Mis-information, either don't hog hunt much....or do so only at night (when the eyesight of all ungulates is compromised).

Here is the almost finished trap, just have a little more welding to do.

Here is the trap door entrance made out of angle iron....

The trap door is held up by wire cables to the trip trigger on the other side of the pen...

Nothing obstructs their entry into the trap....
