| So what do you think of .357 out of a lever action for hogs? I have some 180 gr cast core rounds. I was thinking of that round maybe for close in work, 75 yds or less, brush, woods, etc... |
| My kids first hunting rifle was a Marlin '94 in .357. They have each killed a couple dozen hogs with that rig. I cut the stock down quite a bit and mounted a Kick Eeze pad on it for them- has an old Weaver K4 on it. They shoot Federal Cast Core 180 grainers out of it. Kills the shit out of pigs...never recovered a slug yet including several that snuffed rather large boars. Under 100 yards, it's an absolute killer- same on deer. An excellent starter rifle for the kids, only issue is decocking the hammer- mine is one of the old "pre safety" guns. |

I'm going to bump this. My FIL wants to hunt pigs in a "no lead zone" area. So I'm lookin to see if a .357 out of a Yellow boy will do the trick. And is there any lead free .357 hunting ammo. IIRC corbon makes their dpx in the .357 mag. I am pretty sure Buffalo Bore does too. You might want to look at the Ruger 77/357 as well. Mine is handy and accurate. Some Buffalo Bore .357 exceeds 30-30 velocity out of the 18.5" barrel. |

Here's a lead-free possibility.
Barnes Expander, Federal version Never used it, so I can't comment on its effectiveness, but there it is. Wandered across it while browsing their new stuff in .357 the other day. |
