In .308 grab you some cheap 150gr core lokts.( $17-18 a box), or anything you have laying around that shoots good out of your rifle. I've had pretty good luck with 55gr psp's and 60gr partitions. Like stated above shot placement is really more important than the bullet you use.
Good luck on the hunt. |

Barnes or partitions. Any of the ones you listed will work if you do your part, but I prefer partitions, or Barnes. I've seen animals hit decent with "decent" bullets run. I've seen animals hit bad with good bullets, drop. YMMV I'll admit I'm trying to stack the deck. A good shot through the neck or heart/lungs with a FMJ would probably do the job I'm sure. Problem is we might be stalking, we might be spotlighting at night, we might be sitting in a blind, etc. hence either using a .308 hunting rifle, or an AR in .223 |

My go to gun is a Rem 700 Sendero. If I'm in a blind or on the ground then it's great but I got tired of humping that heavy son of a bitch around and bought a Marlin 336 30-30 and have been happier than hell with it. I'll also take a short AR or sometimes the A2. The carbine is also easier to shoot out of a truck window and to maneuver when getting in/out of the truck a lot. Plus, the A2 is entirely too long to use out of a truck at all with the suppressor. The most important thing is to be comfortable with your gun. |

I have a Rem 700 SPS-V (.308) and an Armalite mid-length (.223). Hence, the two calibers. And like I said originally, I'm not sure what we're going to be doing yet, spotlighting from a truck, sitting in a blind, stalking, etc. but I'm sure it will be fun either way. I'll have an after-action report hopefully next week with pictures. |
