| ok, if the hogs in the U.S. came from Europe long ago , what is a true pineywoods rooter. Im in East TX and all my life have been told that a PWR will have a longer snout and be more aggressive. So, you have wild feral pigs, you have the Russian hog mostly in the game ranches for people to pay big bucks to hunt, and the pineywoods rooter. Is that just another name for a regular wild feral pig?? |

I saw this program on NGC or Discovery channel called "Pig Bomb" the other day. It was pretty interesting.
They said that basically all pigs in the US came from 8 pigs brought by Christopher Columbus in 1493...from the Canary Islands if I remember right. They of course multiplied like crazy....some eventually domesticated, others feral, with Eurasian/Russian boar mixes thrown in. As more money/hunters came into the mix in the last 25 years, the pig breeds are turning more aggressive and include more Russian blood because of the game aspect. Longer snouts, taller and faster pigs are part of the Eurasian/Russian heritage. I'd guess that's where your Piney Woods Rooters come from. |
