| We have a peice of property with many small hogs, most not more than 70 lbs and many in the 20-30 range, there is a perticular spot on the fence where they cross regularly, would a quality snare be any good at all, thanks |

Snares can be effective in conjunction with other means/methods or removing hogs, however snares are not SELECTIVE...so unless you are dead certain the trail is primarily/exclusively used by hogs...you may well catch other animals (deer, dog, coyotes) as well. Too, from an ethical standpoint you must be available to check the snares at least once a day (if not more).
If you truly have large numbers of smaller hogs, I would recommend you build a "pen trap" and remove them that way. |
| ok thanks, we really dont have any deer in this particular area, not that they arent there just never seen. I can handle trapping anything else. I have the means of checking it twice a day. most of the tracks coming throung this spot are a little bigger than a quarter, so there are many small ones. i may check into building a trap. thanks again |

A few years ago, I was snaring hogs on my hunting lease and was catching a bunch of them. The snares were big enough to fit over thier head and the hogs were usually found choked to death. I was attaching the snares to fence posts near thier trails and all was well until I caught a 250# boar by the snout. This was one pissed off pig to say the least, and I spent the rest of the morning fixing a badly tore up fence.
PS. You can catch an accidental deer. Don't ask me how I know. |
| Lol accidental deer? In southeast texas there is no such thing....just as i thought we had no deer in the area with the hogs.(we never see them) 16 showed up on the camera so i guess now i will have to watch out for them, but as far as the snares, i decided to no go that route and just put a reg trap. thanks for the help guys |
