I'm going out for my first hunt and I'm looking to get a jacket, but the choices are appear to be too many  Drake, Columbia, Browning, Red Head, UA, etc.  I'd prefer to buy once and cry once, but any suggestions.  I've got plenty of cold weather gear but its pedestrian camping type stuff.  First hunt will be for ducks from a blind.  I'm in Georgia so it's rare that it will be extremely cold.

Thanks

I've got a Drake LST 4 in 1 jacket that is pretty nice. I've only worn it a handful of times, but so far so good.

You can't go wrong with Drake gear, but I got this Cabelas jacket last season and have been extremely pleased.

Nearly all the gear I rock is Cabelas brand. Mainly because they have a store less than 15 min from me. Great return policy, exceptional products. My jacket, same as posted above is the warmest thing I have ever worn. Double layer jacket, so you can take out the inside layer and just use the shell

Barbour.

I have 2 of them; they are awesome coats, they will repair them for you, and customize them too.

I have a Beaufort which has a game bag on it and I have some other model that I wear around town.  They are totally waterproof; I wore the Beaufort at college in pouring rain and when it was snowing sideways.  Not only was it warm, but I never got any water through.

Great coats.  I think they were both around  $400 each.

Get what you pay for... kind of like buying 5 pairs of boots instead of 1 pair of Russells.

I've got a Drake that I think is the 3 in 1 plus 2.  It has an outer shell, then an inner fleece type thing that is fleece bottom and camo waterproof top part.  Sleeves zip off and you can make the inner fleece thing a vest.  Used it I think about 3 seasons and it's held up very well for me.  This past season it was warm enough where I was I only used the inner jacket and threw on the shell if it happened to be raining.  Got enough pockets and while I've never zipped off the sleeves it's nice to use for venting.  I think I got it toward the end of one of the seasons on sale for like $175 or something.  Now is a good time to be buying gear, so look around and see what deals you can find.

ok, this is really old, but you should buy a Filson

made in USA forever
a million different styles to fit what you do to hunt

you'll own it forever and probably hand it down to your grandkids (it will never wear out)

tough as nails.
