So, last weekend was the opener for waterfowl here. Nothing at all moving. Not during the day anyhow. I was hoping the cold and snow up north would have helped but no luck. We did manage 3 ducks on Saturday but, didnt see much at all. How is everyone else doing so far? |

Quoted: I imagine they are still up north.I can tell you that I live in a Candian flyway and have only seen one flock come thru, I Usually see them starting end of July...and see 1000's was pondering the same question ![]() Since we have had no rain the lakes, ponds and everything else are dried up so they will make a bee line south without stopping. Hopefully it will improve. We shall see. |
plenty of geese moving here in ct, mallards are present, same goes for the woodies, but those are all locals. We have had a few dips back and forth in temps so I imagine it wont take long for the teal to un ass the AO, Im hoping I can atleast connect with them again this year. Last year I doubled up a drake and a hen, would of made a great mount, cept I brained them them both my taxidermy man is good, but id need a head transplant for the two of them.

We've got new doves and the ducks are starting to show up. In the past week I've seen new ruddys, widgeon, gadwall, pintail, and ringbills. The redheads and cans have yet to make their appearance. While waterfowl will move in response to big weather, the primary motivating factors are the length of daylight and availability of open water and food. Storms are mostly good for just stirring up what you already have in the area as they seek more sheltered areas. |
| Had our duck opener yesterday, lots of woodies in the air, the weather sucked, bright and sunny, no wind, not a single cloud in the sky. Also the first time CT has done a saturday opener, so we heard lots of shooting but not a lot of reports of guys connecting, so we'll see how bad they got blown out tomorrow afterwork. Managed to brain a nice drake with a single pellet , dead before he hit the water. |

have had several Large flocks of Candians and some Ross come thru in recent days...maybe 2 weeks?,
had a flyover my pond last evening, I think if I could jump a wee bit higher I'd have been able to grab my Christmas goose by hand
I have corn out for deer, hoping to get some geese to make this an annual stop.. |
