Federals Prairie Storm game loads....
Does anyone have any experience with them? How do they preform? Is it just a gimmick? Fury. |

Never even heard of it. These days everyone seems to love Fiocchi's "Golden Pheasant" #5 plated rounds. Edit to add, I just stick with standard $6/box plain lead myself I tend to use Golden Pheasant (20 3in gauge #4) myself....I bought a box of the Prairie Storm on a whim. |

Thanks for reminding me I don't get to go on my yearly pheasant hommage to south dakota this year.. Oh, and I use the winchester's since I like to use the 20ga.

| I shot some phez with it in 12g, seemed efective, hard to tell if its better than other premium stuff, i was using a Prairie Storm lt mod choke in my SBE2 and i did get one rooster at about 70 yards, it had a boken wing and was running fast across the stubble field, my GSP nailed it easy enough and brought it back. When i go to ND in a few weeks i am just taking Kent fast lead as i am a broke construction worker, LOL |
I'm leaving for Gregory, South Dakota in five days for our annual pheasant hunt. I haven't heard of that particualr load but most of the people in our group use the Fiocchi Golden Pheasant loads. I use the Federal Wing-Shok in 12 gauge - #5. I bought two cases a while back when it was about $8 a box. I've done quite well with the Federal and glad I stocked up when the price was right. If anyone needs a terrific South Dakota outfitter, drop me a line and I'll tell you about our guy in Gregory.

| I have shot phez with #6 Prairie storm using a PS early season choke, it will really trash a bird close up, but i did kill some at 50 yards pretty well, I am going to ND next week and taking Kent fast lead # 5 and 6. If you use Prairies Storm i would try an IC or LM choke as it seems to stay pretty tight |

Pheasant is nothing like duck. In fact, it doesn't even tast like chicken. Pheasant has a flavor all its own. Just make sure to get all the shot out, wash thoroughly to get the blood out, pick out all the feathers that have been driven into the bird and you are good to go.
You can crock pot it with mushroom soup. You can cut it into pieces, bread it and fry it like chislik. You can bake it like a chicken with onions, mushrooms, celery and some stock. You can fillet the breast and make pheasant sandwiches (during WWII they served these to the men going across the state while headed east or west). |

BTW.....OP....I've been using a 28ga with #6s, 1 oz Winchesters for years and never had a problem dropping Pheasants with it. |
| We are heaed back to N. Dakota on Thanksgiving, the first trip my friends 20g using Praire Storm really tore up the birds, but it did kill them really well, i will take a box of #5s with me this time as its getting late season, but i will still use a LM choke, the kent fast lead really worked well for me on the first trip |
| Hunted in western ks last week and buddy used them in12 ga. Took the pheasants down really good and said he might get another box or two if the price came down.. something about $20 plus per box. I used Red Label in 20 with Remington Express and didn't have any problems killing my pheasants. We hunted for 3 1/2 days and came home with 14 birds. Saw lots of chickens but not close enough to shoot any. |

i used the Blackcloud ammo in my 20g side by side and ill tell you im not a fan. I hit a bird about 10 -15 yards out feathers everywhere, 1st thought o shit nothing is gona be left, then all of a sudden it got up and started running.
samething earlier that day but the this time i shot it with the 2nd barrel which with steel shoots a full choke and entire right side of bird was gone. I am sticking to the Golden Pheasant and Winchester Xtreme Steel!! ended up being a good day, took my buddy with to use as a dog. fresh snow was out and birds were trackable. left with 3 roosters and one hen. |
