I just got back from a pheasant hunt in the TX panhandle and those feathers are too beautiful to just throw away.  After a few trial and error attempts, I figured out how to skin the entire bird and have several whole "pelts" that I want to tan and use for wall hanging or something.  First, how do I go about tanning or curring the pelt, salt, drying?  Second, any thoughts on what I can do with them to make something unique or interesting?  I kept the nicest colored bird to have it mounted but want to do something with the pelts too.  Thanks for the help.

I would use borax to "tan" the hide.

Flesh thoroughly.  Dust completely with Non-iodized salt and Borax.  Use pins to put it on a card board box.  Let dry completely.

The hides can be wrapped/placed on wreaths for Christmas or as a fall decoration. My wife has made several, though we have none at the moment. I use the tails and some of the feathers to tie fishing flies.
