Now that waterfowl season has ended for me, and I'm bored out of mind these days I figured I'd start a thread about what we all shoot.
Last season I started with a Mossberg 835 for waterfowl, got tired of it so I switched it up to my 870. I plan on using my new Beretta Xtrema 2 for ducks and geese next season. |

You will LOVE the xtrema 2. I have the original Xtrema and have had zero malfunctions. It will cycle any load on the market without changing anything. The only thing I do to it during the season is when I break it down to put it back in the hard case, I wipe the piston down. Be sure and get the Kick off on yours. With 3 or 3 1/2's recoil feels more like a .410 than a 12 ga. |

With 3 or 3 1/2's recoil feels more like a .410 than a 12 ga. I got the kick-off alright. I was actually kinda surprised at how much recoil there was shooting turkey loads. I think I must have expected a much lower recoil because everyone was saying how much the kick-off reduces recoil. What I'm going to do the next time I shoot it is bring my 870 and do a comparison to get an accurate idea of how much the kick-off really does. I will say I'm impressed at how well she handled the 2.75 loads. no problems yet. She shot everything from 3.5 loads to 1 1/8 oz target loads without a hiccup. I really haven't shot her enough to get a good idea of what she can do but I'm pleased so far. Thanks for giving me some positive feedback on my beretta, duckcallinfool. It's nice to know that I didn't screw the pooch on this buy. |

I had a Benelli SBE II that I started with in September. I was not impressed. Shot about 300 rounds through it and the chrome lining on the IC choke tube started pealing off. Long story short, I ended up selling the gun.
I use a Beretta 686 Sporting 30" for ducks I've had it for a long time and it's perfect for 3" loads. Don't have to worry about things freezing up on you in cold weather. I bought a Mossberg 835 12 gauge and a Browning BPS 10 gauge this year for geese. That Browning has to be one of my favorite guns for geese. I was hesitant on the 10 gauge but curiosity got the best of me and it is definitely worth it. The Mossberg also gives a terrific pattern with 3-1/2 BB. They are terrific guns for the money. I used to own a 870....the Mossberg 835 has advantages over the 870 shotguns....specifically, the over-bored barrel allows for better patterning and the safety is in the right spot (not on the trigger guard). |

I have better guns but for turkey hunting I prefer Mossbergs. My current gun is a 935 I picked up used for $200. Ain't pretty but I'm sure it will kill birds like the others before it. That's a heck of a deal. I love my 935. A lot of people claimed that it wouldn't cycle low brass 2.75" shells, but I have yet to see that with mine. |
