Pics man, pics....

I saw my first one last week on a nearby farm. Waiting to hear back if I can get permission to hunt that land.

I'm itching to get the 1st one of this season.

And I agree, where are the pics?!

I'm up to seven... 6 of them were from last Saturday.  Will post pictures of the next outing.

Been seeing them for roughly a month around here, all within the city limits though, used to spend almost the entire spring chasing those bad boys around.

First one this year.  135 yards.

I'm up to three, possibly four. The forth was spun, then ran to the hole. So, can't confirm.

Two were taken with the .277 Wolverine, the third and most recent was with BH 5.56 77gr TMK.

Longest shot was about 125 yards. The small farms I'm working don't really offer a safe long shot, due to location and the surroundings.

.277 Wolverine shots (125 and 60-70 yards).

BH 5.56 77gr TMK (about 50 yards):

Using Ruger's new 77/17 in .17WSM. Distance was 127 yards, and it was DRT.

Just got my second tonight. I wish I had a regular place to hunt them.

4 tonight in a field that's been very good to me over the years. Pups are out and it looks like the field is loaded again.

Ranges were 125, 259, 361 and 506 yards. I had to pass on one of the pics as the carcass was too far out in a muddy field.

Equipment:

Savage action 22BR 1-8 twist Douglass barrel built by Fred Moreo of SharpShooter Supply

Hornady 75 grain Amaxs @ 3150 fps MV

Thanks! I was ready to go yesterday, loaded up some .17Rem and more 22BR rounds but the monsoon never let up.

I may have to take a day off this week and sit on a field.

Nice shooting. It looks like you have a great spot, especially for some long shots.

I took the daughter along last night, and we setup in a perfect spot for some 380-410 yard shots. I could pan an see at least five active holes (I flagged them, and the farmer has been keeping the grass cleared around them for me).

The problem is, I've NEVER seen a hog near them, however they are full of sign (fresh dirt moved, tracks in the mud near the holes, etc.). Anyhow, on the opposite side of the bean field, there are a bunch of holes on the edge of the golf course. They always come out after 6-6:30PM. Two came out, and we got one at about 80-85 yards. I hit her with the laser at 87 yards, but she walked towards me a bit before I shot.

My daughter and the hog:

I need a nice bench setup like you have... I've been shooting mine from the sitting, which makes it tough for the long shots.

I've shot using multiple setups but the bench in the bed of the truck is the best setup for longer range stuff.

I've got a lot of great fields but I'm short on time now due to working 2nd shift.

That's slick!

I was actually thinking about backing the truck up to one spot, and shooting from inside the bed in the prone. Now, I might have to copy off your setup

If you ever need help covering those fields, let me know. That's assuming you're not on the opposite side of the state. I'm in in the NW.

I got one last night as well.

Craziest thing too. He was up on a pile of old barn siding, stretched up trying to eat leaves off a tree! I've never seen that before. And, I wasn't even watching that area, I just happened to see him from the corner of my eye when I got up to stretch.

I blew his/her intestines all over the ground, but he/she still made it to the hole, leaving a huge path of blood behind.

You've found a good spot.

I haven't found a field that has that many in it at one time. Most I've seen is three, and they were spread out over 350 yards. I was only able to kill the one, as the other two were by the golf course, and my angle was wrong to shoot at them. I got them a few days later :)

The boy and I picked off a little one the other night.

I'm almost positive it's a baby of the one I took with my daughter above. Same spot. Three came out, however due to the angle and the golf course, I could only shoot at one of them.

I used my .277 Wolverine for this one.

I'm hoping I can get the other two soon, this rain isn't helping. I also got permission to hunt a new farm yesterday, and the farmer showed me where he's been seeing them

If you guys are close to Hardin county, Kenton area my grandfather was about 300 acres that he would let you hunt groundhogs on. Mostly farm land

Second time ever that I shot a groundhog out of a tree.  Sucker tried to get away by climbing an old Willow tree, just didn't get high enough.

Must be up to about 40 groundhogs so far this year, though the long shots are few and far between due to the rate that everything has been growing.

Got another one at a new farm last night. Farmer friend called after several failed attempts at trapping a decent sized hog.

He said there was one, however two came out when I was there. Took the one, but the other was 2 feet from a diesel fuel tank, so he'll live to see another day. I plan to go back as soon as time and weather allow.

Pretty decent pig, one of the bigger ones I've killed this year. Short shot, 37 yards via laser rangefinder. ADI 55gr BlitzKing.

Crappy iPotato photo:

ETA: I've taken a few more over the past couple months, but it's been tough due to the beans being up. Two recent kills were at the local range I practice at, which is always a nice surprise to smoke a pig while you're at the shooting range. There are several more there, but they are in tough spots.

Here's one of them:
