Well I need some help choosing on a good quality scope in the $400 to $500 range I will mostly be varmint hunting,but deer hunting and prarie dog hunting will also be included. Thanks for helping a newbie

What range will you be shooting?  There's a lot of decent glass in that price range.  Nikon Monarch, Vortex, even some Leupold (but I find them a bit pricy for the quality...)  Even some of the lessor known scopes can be great.  I believe I actually had a Redfield on one of my rifles in the military.  It all depends on what you want to do, and at what range.

Reticle choice, tube diameter and a whole bunch of other things come into play when choosing optics.


That said, I really like my Weaver Classic V16 4-16 and Nikon scopes with fine crosshair reticles and 1/8 MOA target dots for varmint work.
 


It offers a nice clean view in the scope.

Need more info.

1) Expected shot ranges?
2) Platform you will be mounting it on?
3) Do you have experience with mil-dots?
4) Is this a daylight only optic, or will it be used at night / low-light?
