| I am in Michigan for a week for Thanksgiving, a farmer my nephew knows wants us to kill some coyote off of his farm. I can not seem to find in the regs if I can use my AR (we are in the shotgun only deer zone), the regs I have found on the DNR internet page are as clear as mud, and I left a message for a DNR officer, and have not heard back. |

What a poorly written web site they have.
The way I read it the rifle/shotgun line is only for deer hunting. But on another page it says it's illegal to take a centerfire rifle into the fields from Nov 15-30 unless you have a deer hunting license. So IF I'm right you can use your AR15 on yotes, with a 5 round magazine, but you will also need to buy a deer hunting license. |

Check out this page:
http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10363-31621––,00.html ETA: I agree that the coyote hunting rules are confusing as hell. You can try asking in the Home Town Forum but the best bet is call the DNR and get the answer. |
| Then in another spot it talked about not needing a license if you have a concealed carry permit, but did not say if it had to be Michigan's, or a state they reciprocate with, then it stated somewhere else, if on private land, no license was needed, like I said, clear as mud. |

Are you talking about this?
"1. Raccoon and coyote may be taken on private property by a property owner or designee all year if they are doing or about to do damage on private property. A license or written permit is not needed." http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7-153-10363_10880_10996-220502––,00.html I haven't been in Michigan very long, and I haven't tried to make heads or tails out of the rules for hunting coyotes here. Looking through the regulations, they do do a good job of making it clear as mud. Hopefully someone here chimes in that knows. Personally I'd keep trying to contact the DNR offices to get the straight scoop, 2nd hand info may or may not be correct. The contact numbers are on the website I linked to. I'd start here: Wild Life Division: 517-373-9336. |
