Ok...now I know some of you long time varmint hunters will have a laugh at my expense and thats OK......I've already freely admitted that I'm a newbe to on-purpose varmit hunting though I've been a hunter since I was kid.

I spend a lot of time in my car for the job and recently I've taken my crow and rabbit distress calls with me for practice. I can only imagine how I must appear to others. Well maybe my practice has helped!

This morning as I was walking down my driveway to put my computer and briefcase in the car I noticed a couple of big fat crows on the ground about 100 yards or so down the hill. They paid me no attention as usual.

So, I thought what the heck. I dug out the knight and hale and crouched down behind the car so the crows couldn't see me. I gave it couple caws and sure as hell, those crows stopped dead in their tracks looking for me. One of them cawed back so I tried to imitate him and returned the call. They flew up into a tree out of sight, so I naturally thought I'd been busted. Oh well.

And then, to my utter astonishment, about 6 big fat crows came flying low over the darn trees, flew right to me and proceeded to circle around me! Holy sh**t batman! How freakin  cool is that? Then another one from behind me comes flying down the road from the other direction and lands in my big red maple not 20 yards from me. All the while there are half dozen or so of them looping around right over me and calling and yacking....all within very easy shotgun range for me! That literally put goosebumps on me! And let me tell ya, it takes a lot to put goosebumps on my raggidy old hide!

Now seriously. How freaking cool is that? Damn that was some fun!

It's a whole lot more fun when you have a shotgun handy! A crow hitting the ground sounds like an encyclopedia being dropped on a library floor.

Oh yeah. I've dropped a few but never having called them to me. Those crows this AM would have taken a beating if I'd been locked and loaded.
