I was back in WV, Tyler County to be exact, this weekend and looking forward to some groundhog hunting. Friday evening I went up into the area were most of the farms are and talked to 5 different people about groundhog hunting on Saturday. All of them said they had not seen any groundhogs in 2 or 3 years. I beleive them. I was driving around between 6:00pm and 7:30pm and only saw one down by the main road. I saw a lot of deer and several turkeys, but only the one lonely groundhog. I suppose the coyotes have been hard on them. I guess I'm going to have to change from groundhogs to coyotes. |

It's a little early for me here in N.E. Ohio. There out a few times a day behind my house but, not in the fields I hunt. I'll take a weeks vacation 2nd. week of May and that should talley 15-20 depending on weather, another the last week of May. Also the Coyotes, hawks owls have killed off alot of the spring litters over the years around here. I struggle to hit 65-75 a year anymore In 1984 I shot over 200 when I was layed off 12 weeks. I've already dropped off the Beer, Deer meat, and fresh baked pie's to all the farmers and my shit's dialed and ready to roll. Stick with it, first week of June is best here depending on the beans and hay fields. |
