I think I'm going to take that other fellow's advice and look at taking up golf.

Hunted most every opportunity I had this year, in spots that are full of sign and have always produced. Mornings, mid-days, evenings, whatever my schedule allowed.

I had ONE deer in shooting range; a tiny doe that probably still had light patches where her spots were. I let her walk.

I have NEVER been this thoroughly skunked, and I'm damn frustrated. I can't even honestly say I *enjoyed* this season. I got cold, wet, sore, muddy, wind-burned, and nothing to show for any of it.

Anyone want to buy several shotguns, a muzzleloader, a Contender pistol, lots of camo and underlayers, and a metric boatload of ammo? I think I can probably get a pretty nice set of clubs with that much stuff to sell...

You seem to have a lot of company this year. I have 1 doe to my credit this year. I missed a great buck opening morning but it's been a tough year otherwise; especially after the opening morning of gun season. The weather on the weekends just didn't cooperate with us.

a man told me one time, that is why they call it "hunting", and not "killing"

Where I am deer patterns have changed drastically I think because of the warm weather and lack of any acorns and other nuts.

I thought they would be more active due to the lack of high calorie food. If they are, I can't find them.

I have only seen 2 deer this year. I heard a bunch more and I hunted exclusively from the ground where my visibility is limited in range, but I think the lack of acorns in the North East played a major roll in deer patterns.

Nah, that fancy 'Murkin ammo costs too much! I use me some English ammo, 12ga and 20ga!

In all seriousness though, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with this experience this year.

That's because the bow I've been using is (A) borrowed and (B) not worth much. It's an old Oneida Eagle (like Uncle Ted uses!); it's heavy, slow, noisy, and cumbersome. Unfortunately, I have a ridiculous arm span and need a draw length of about 31.5". The only current compounds with that kind of draw pull prices near four figures, and I don't like bow hunting THAT much.

I feel your pain on that, I went by the local shop to get my draw length checked a while back and their set up wasn't marked out past 30", they had to grab a sharpie and a ruler to add the extra inch for me.

As far as being skunked I feel your pain there as well. All summer long my game camera showed several bucks and does going by my blind almost daily, even during the 2 weeks prior to gun season (you could damn near set your watch by them). Once gun season rolled around though the only deer I spotted was a doe about 50 yards out behind a hill and all i could see was her head, and that was within 10 minutes of sunset on closing day. I was able to pop a couple squirrels from my stand though, nothing like a 45 yard shot with a 10/22 and CCI CB rounds.

had made comment earlier  about switching from hunting ta golf...  more hummor than advice, put guess me humor didn't make no sence, or twas bad advice, cause it didn't compute...   ain't got no deer in year's meself...    bullets getting defective... few years back twas lined up on hog's two different ocations,  both times miss fire...  no bacon or pork that day...  the rounds were pretty old, an had been sitten out in the rain few times keepen me company... defused em whin got home an guess the moisture clummped the powder...   see if this computes...

The grass is always greener I guess.  I've been stationed in CA this year, so I can't even go hunting.  I'd give almost anything to go sit in the woods with a gun and not see a deer.

Nah, your humor came through. It's just been one of those damn seasons. I'd be happy with a hog, too.

ML ended yesterday - I've had enough, screw late archery season. Time to grab a certain 10yr old and add to our supply of bushytails.

I live on 400 acres of prime hunting land in southeast VA. I killed 10 deer last year including two nice bucks. I hunted at least 4 times a week this year since early october and only had a shot at a spike buck early in the season and I missed a shot at a running buck while running dogs in another county. I feel your pain.
