Went out today for opening day for rifles in TN. Passed on two doe due to not having a decent shot at around 250 yards. Then a good sized bastard went right past me at full speed.I steadied my aim, he turned broad side to me at about 225 yards. "This is the one" I thought as I got my breathing in order. Relax, breath, aim, then squeeze. Bam. I see her act like something hit her or she just got scared shitless. I wait for a few before I go to track her as she took off. When I get to her location where the hammer of God just kicked her ass and find nothing. No fur, no blood, no guts. I start to head in the direction she took off, hoping to pick up her trail but can find nothing.
I missed my shot. How'd I do that? Beats me, I should've been on with my 308 but I wasn't. Talk about an ego check. Oh well, back to the drawing board. I will say my glass and stock are junk and need to be replaced immediately. Dick's ADL 700 special. But even with those, I should've been able to make that hit. Sigh... So, who else here has missed a shot like that or do I just suck. Either way, I'm depressed over it. |

I've spent over 80 hours in the woods this season(bow and gun). Saw some very, very nice deer bow season but failed to tag anything. Thought "Well at least come gun season I'll have a rifle and then I'll get one..." Spend two days in the woods gun hunting and didn't get shit! Didn't see shit! Didn't hear shit...
Fuck deer hunting, fuck hunting in south central Wisconsin, fuck the DNR, fuck not having any habitat that forces deer into any regular pattern, fuck, fuck, fuck... Funny thing is, my golfing rants sound eerily similar to my hunting rants.

Standing still at 200+ yards, it ran by me at 100 yards and circled around. Quoted:
So the deer was running at 225? Or was it standing still? Either way with field conditions it isn't always that easy. If it was running at that distance that is a no shoot most of the time. Too much of a chance at just wounding the deer. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
