Do you feel they are ethical?  Would you/have you shot at running deer?

A dead run? Never. I did however take a buck at a trot @ 150 yards with my muzzle loader. It was a consistent pace, so I put the sights on the front chest and swung with him. Hit him center mass.

ETA: I helped track a gut shot deer that he took a shot at on the run. That deer ran well over a mile and a half before it laid down to die.

I've done it twice, but generally don't.  Both dropped like a rock, as they were perfectly hit, but I certainly don't recommend it unless you've shot a lot of rabbits ahead of hounds.

My first kill was on a doe.  My uncle jumped her and she ran across the path no more than 10 yards away at a dead run.  I took the shot with my 30-30 with a red dot mounted on it.  Part of me feels I shouldn't have, another part of me feels that I'm out there to kill deer and a decent shot at a running deer is plenty ethical.

In this case I shot her right through her left lung and heart.  She dropped no more than 30 yards away.  I'm still kind of torn on the issue.  I know quite a few people that won't shoot anything but an absolutely still deer.

The odds of gut shooting it are too great to chance it under most circumstances.  Ugly that.

Took one opening day of last year.  12GA Hornady SST Slug; 1 shot, 1 kill.    Got both lungs and the heart, he ran 100 yards then fell over dead.  Every situation is different, if you don't think it's an ethical shot then by all means don't take it.  Initially I thought I missed because he never made any movement to indicate I hit him, just kept on trucking.  All I could see was asshole in my scope so I didn't take a followup shot.  When I saw him rear up then fall over near the edge of the field before he got into the woods on the other side I was ecstatic.

Know your weapon system, your abilities and when to pass.

Under the right circumstances... sure.

I take running shots all the time.  In open fields it is pretty simple, but in woods it gets tricky.  Here's my trick.  You have to be familiar with the terrain and where the deer is going and I won't shoot through brush.  I pick a tree ahead of the deer and put my crosshairs at deer chest height just past the tree.  As soon as I see the deer's nose I blink and pull the trigger.  They have to be within 75 yards for this to work, but it has never failed me yet and I have killed alot of deer this way.  When you blink it is just the right amount of time for the deer to cover the foot or so before their chest cavity is in the right spot for a shot.  I have never had a deer go more than a few yards past the tree and most of the time it's just because of momentum.

Where I hunt during gun season, on every side of me hunters are driving; running shots are expected.

last deer I shot was a doe running full speed since she sees me running to get a better position. Hit her with a heart/lung shot at 65 yards.

I practice shooting a target in the center of a car tire, rolling downhill.

I have killed a lot of deer that were running/trotting.

Dead run - not I. I will shoot them walking if I'm hunting with a firearm.

as with everything else in hunting, depends on training , practice and skill.
if you'v never shot past 100 yards then taking a shot at 400 is unethical.  but if you shoot at 400 every week, ethical.
my FIL can barely hit a buck standing still, but I routinely take them at a dead run at long range.
but I practice throughout the year and know where that round is going to go.

I'll never say never, but I generally try not too.  If in the moment I feel good about it, then perhaps...

I've only taken one running shot on a deer in my life (it was a doe many years ago) –– and I never found it after hitting it with a shotgun slug. Stationary deer only for me now.

Only time I take a shot on a running deer is if it has already been hit (or suspected hit)

Now I have shot deer that were walking, but that depends upon a lot of things like how thick the brush is between us and if I feel I can make the shot.

I've shot and killed a few running deer. I'll only do it if I know I will make a clean shot on the deer.
