I got my first buck this morning. It was small 120lbs but it was a buck and I was excited about it. I shot it with a Thompson Center Pro Hunter in 25-06. The bullet was the Hornady 117gr SST which performed incredibly well. I am really liking the 25-06. Legal shooting started this morning at approximately 6:45am and I took my shot at 7:30am....this is the shortest deer season I've ever had!!

Congratulations. The .25-06 has always been one of my favorite calibers. Too bad we can't deer hunt with it here in Indiana.

Congrats!  I remember my shortest season, I worked hard in the off season getting my spot planned, practicing with my bow, I had shooting lanes cut in months before season and I was watching a nice buck.  Damn is 6:30 the first day of archery if a nice 8-point didn't walk under my tree and back then PA didn't allow more then one deer a year.  I filled my tag just 15-minutes into the season after spending months to get ready to hunt.

The next year I got cocky and decided I was going to hold out for a wall hanger buck.  Passed up one buck and then didn't see another buck for something like three years straight.  God taught me a lesson, and now I am thankful for what I get and when I get it although I will pass up a small one now and then as long as we already have meat in the freezer...  I have five tags this year

ME is only 1 buck and without a doe tag ( hard to get ) he is done.

Congrats OP.  In KS, you can only shoot 1 buck per year.  You can also shoot several whitetail does, the number depending on which unit your are in.

Congrats on your kill.  I've never hunted in ME, but from what I understand deer is a whole different ball game, and much more of a challenge to even see one.

Now get some pics up!

that is crazy, I saw tons of deer when I lived in maine.

Here in VA your big game tag gets you 3 bucks and 3 dows, and there are unlimited rebuys of doe tags at 18$ for 6 and we still have tons of deer.

If you really wanted to in some parts of VA you can start archery hunting in September, shooting 2 deer a day, 6 days a week, until March, with muzzle loader and rifle seasons in the middle.  Only the 3 bucks, the rest would have to be does.

Would have to buy a lot of bonus tags to do that.

Yup, 1 deer. I had a doe tag so I could take either sex. There are special permits typically archery and only in certain zones that allow for multiple deer.

Even with a doe tag you are done after one with a rifle... if you have a bow and can get access to certain zones you can take more....

congrats on your first buck. To bad you didn't get it on the last day of the season. That 45 minute season is way to short.
You guys sure get the short end of the stick for deer season. It may be warm down here but our hunting season is long and liberal.

Holy shit, I'd be in heaven. Only one tag here too unless you want to buy a leftover non resident tag at the non resident price.
