Took this guy yesterday morning. Not a monster but he is my first kill muzzle loader kill. I planned to just keep using my bow during the Muzzle season but my buddy convinced me to to take my 209 Encore out this season. 100gr of Pyrodex behind a 250 Powerbelt. He went about 60 yards but his trail was pretty easy to follow. Recovered the Powerbelt in his front shoulder. He was hammering a scrape I was watching for the last three days. Had a small 6 work his scrape about a hour before he came into view. Needless to say, this guy was a little pissed. It was awesome to watch him work that thing.

I took one on opening day here (11/07/2009) towards the end of the day. Not a huge one but its my first deer ever. Last year was a bust for me. I took it with my own built 6.8mm with Hornady 110gr Vmax. I don't really know if you want to see pics. I took a head shot and there isn't much left of it.
Edit: Oh what the hell, its a pic thread right. The first two taken by one of the guys in the group on opener. Tied up on the 4 wheeler and ready to roll out of the woods. 
Here's mine with part of the head missing. Needless to say, I didn't have to track it. Didn't have a pic of it in the field. 
All four we got opening day before butchering. There was a nice size buck in there as well, but he grabbed his deer and decided to have it processed somewhere.

Sorry, no pictures, but I did take a mature doe saturday evening. 83 yards with the savage 10-ML muzzleloader, 45 grains of AA5744 behind a 250-grain hornady XTP bullet. Bullet entered the front of the right shoulder, through the lungs, out the ribcage, found resting under the opposite skin. Expansion was a bit excessive, penetration a bit less than I like, so I'll probably go back to the hornady sst bullets again.
Had some loin last night and backstrap this morning - fried, of course. 
edit: she dropped instantly. I had my other muzzleloader with me, and there were 8 other does/fawns on the other end of the field that stood around for a few seconds, but I didn't want to process two deer that night (too warm) so I passed them for later. |

Well 2009 was good to me. Just got back from hunting in North Louisiana and brought back 3 deer this year. Bagged 2 doe's and 1 buck. Used the Barnes triple shocks this year in both guns (308 & 6.8spc) and am now a huge fan. For the first time I didnt have to track anything........click, bang, flop!

My father arrowed another big buck (210 pounds live weight). Has a 5x5 typical frame, with one sticker coming out of the base of its right main beams.
Shoot the buck at frist light on Monday. The buck gave no indications of being hit, as it just walked off after the shoot. About mid-morning, my father fiinally got down from the stand to retrive his arrow and thats when he found out that he DID hit the deer. We then began to track it, as it has been at least 4 hours since he shot the buck. Lots of blood initially, but the blood trail gave out after 200 yards. Since we were hunting farm land with large forest lots, we kind of had an idea of the general direction the buck took. So we began to search the wood lots for any sign of blood. About 500 yards or so from where we found the last sign of blood, my father jumped the buck. The buck had bedded down in some a narrow washout with some thick cover. After inspecting his bedding and saw the amount of blood he was losing, we began to track him down again, only to jump the buck yet another time. This time, we decided to back out for the day and just let him lie down and die. We plan on searching for him the next morning. It was a tense and nervous afternoon and an even more stressful and sleepless night. Next morning, we resumed where we last saw the buck. The buck gave us a good blood trail for about another 100 yards, then as before, no more blood. We then employed the same tactic as the day before, just started searching. About 15 minutes later, we heard a bunch of crows in a deep ravine and headed in that direction, hoping that the deer had died and the crows were coming in for an easy meal. We were right!!!! Anyways enouch chatter, here is a picture: 
The buck was taken in Vernon Co., WI Here is my shotgun buck from the opening day of the MN firearms season. 8 points, with one broken tine. Not too shabby for public land hunting:

Because of the steep angle of the shot the entrance was perfectly placed (right behind the shoulder) but the exit was a little low (came out between the front leg and the chest). When we field dressed the deer, my assumption was right, it nicked the bottom of only one lung. If it was a double lung shot, the deer would have died quicker and sooner. |
Today was our opening day of Firearms season. I was up at 4:30am and in my stand by 5:45am. At 8:15am this 7 pointer casually walked and stopped broadside to me at about 40yds. I put the hammer on him with the .458 SOCOM! It was a perfect shot with a double lunger! He left a massive blood trail and only made it about 40yds. This is my first buck!

Killed this one at Newport Army Depot today 11-14-09 40 yards Knight MK85 110 grains of powder 300 grain TC Shockwave Going back tomorrow to see if I can get another one of the large bucks I saw today in Newport. Man it was awesome in there. When my friend emails me the pics I will put a better one up. |

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics, but it is all I had with me out in the field. I will try to get some better pics posted soon. I passed this deer last year as a 3 1/2 year old, and I am happy with what he became. We roughly gross scored him last night at 150 inches.

Here are my 2 ML deer..First one is a 8pt I took on opening weekend of ML and the biggest one,I took Saturday morning of the 2nd weekend of out ML season..The biggest deer is my biggest deer to date,He is a 12 pt,he has some big kicker points coming off the back side of his horns,the pics doesn't show it real well,but he is very massive,he carries his mass very well...

I still have yet to see a shooter buck yet this season.... Still got some time though.

Ok Already got one earlier this year w/ the Bow.
This Bad Boy is hopefully next with the Muzzle Loader. This is a big deer for my area and never seen him before, must be chasing them doe. Just reserving the spot! |

There are some damn nice bucks in there guys. Looks like I may finally get a chance to go this week.We'll see how it goes.

Took my son in law out for his first time ever deer hunting. I found him this nice doe within an hour. He was more than happy with his first hunt/kill. He made an excellent shot from about 75 yards, deer actually did a back-flip  when it hit her DRT.

From left to right. 4x4 WT, 5x5 WT (mine!), 2x2 Mulie, 3x3 Mulie, 6x5 WT, and a 4x4 WT, taken by a London native on his first shot, ever, with a cf rifle. (His second shot was a 320yd heart shot on a pronghorn!) Note: I also saw cell phone pics of a 10x11 whitetail taken about a month ago in South Dakota. Look for that one in the magazines.  |
 2009 buck up in WI. Said this last year too, but I'd like to try and let guys this size walk. However, the past couple years have been really slow as compared with even 4 or 5 years ago, whether it's earn-a-buck or other herd reduction efforts, or just the mild weather and late crops allowing the deer to sit still all day. After a few days of not seeing much, the clock was winding down and a small-ish 8-pointer seemed better than driving another 1000-miles empty-handed. Hopefully have another success photo out of OH shotgun season sometime next week if I can get out at all. ETA: Got a button buck in OH on Thursday, public land. I think I had a good area but he was already wounded pretty bad from another hunter who didn't take a very good shot, he was hobbling around with a big hole in one of his back legs and exposed bone. Finished him off with the 12ga at 40 yards or so. I thought it was a good spot - and I still think it is - but it was a heck of a drag even for the little guy. |
